The property is very eclectic. Well decorated and a lot of seating outside on the patio. Breakfast was very good. Margaret was very friendly and always smiling. Bed was very comfortable. She was very accommodating, letting us stay there with our luggage since we had a late flight. Highly recommend it!

The staff are warm, friendly and helpful. Lovely breakfast in the morning. Comfortable Room. Melville shopping centre nearby about a 15 minute walk and area felt safe to me. Using uber is a good way to go to areas further out. Very much enjoyed the days tours organised by the guesthouse with tour guide Ephraim. I recommend 84th on 4th Guesthouse as a very nice place to stay in Johannesburg.

The property is uniquely decorated, the family room is spectacular, but most of all, the staff was warm and attentive. When we arrived, l had caught my finger in the door of our car, and the receptionist who was going off duty, stayed with me until I felt better.

Great place with great people

Super friendly hosts who are always there for you. The second I walked in and had the first chat with the guys I instantly regretted that we booked only one night. The people at this place do an amazing job (and an amazing breakfast! I recommend the Omelette). Thanks for having us!

Melville has always been a wonderful safe, quiet but bustling neighborhood with plenty of great shops and restaurants. It has slid a little since COVID but I’m sure it will recover. Lots of closed businesses. Still friendly and quiet. The staff at 84 was wonderful. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Really good breakfast. Very helpful and personable staff. A great place to stay.

The breakfast was very nice. The staff were helpful and courteous. The room was clean but is in need of some maintenance. E.g. curtain rail falls off each time you move curtain; no inset door handle for bathroom (had to use finger nails to slide door), things like that. Bed and bedding old and needs replacing. No generator; electricity invertor only for wifi during loadshedding (not for heat).

First of all, the location isn't great: while Melville may not be dangerous, I did not feel very safe there. The flimsy door to my room did not help. There was a safe in my room but it was locked, and when I asked if I could use it I was told that it was not possible. The room itself wasn't very clean and there was not a nice odor to it. Breakfast wasn't very great and there were very few options. Staff was not very helpful, difficult at times to communicate with in English, and check in was definitely not a smooth experience. Most of all, an issue arose after my stay: I left behind some valuables, and I asked for the extra courtesy to send them to a local contact in SA (provided them with all the necessary information). While they said that they would, they ignored me when I asked for updates. Upon asking for updates again a few days later, I received a very rude and confrontational answer when I pointed out all this would appear in my review. So here it is. I don't think I am going to retrieve my valuables any more. In short, I cannot recommend this place for a stay in Jo'burg. I would stay in elsewhere in Rosebank or any other safer neighborhood.

Cute and clean cottage feel

Nice room in an inner courtyard guest house, just a half block from a bustling area of small shops and cafes. Accommodating staff and good breakfast. Nice claw foot tub—perfect for a relaxing soak. Comfortable, cozy bed.

The room was hot because the fan was not enough to cool the room and make it comfortable. The towels and beddings need to be replaced with new ones. The sofa also, otherwise it was ok. Breakfast was good.

Loved the staff and the breakfast. We really needed air conditioning so weren't comfortable at night. There are no screens on the windows, if open. The facilities are a little more rustic than the pictures show online, but very clean and the roomwas large as well as the private bathroom. Nice hot water and comfortable bed in our room. Neat garden courtyard.

Par contre, notre chambre n’était clairement pas au niveau attendu : lit très inconfortable et bruit continu venant de l’extérieur (peut être le moteur de la piscine du voisin ou un groupe clim du voisin juste de l’autre côté du mur).
