"While this stay lacks in the polished stays of a fancy resort it makes up ten-fold in charm and personality. "Overall, we had a great stay at this hotel in Hakone and would probably choose it again if we return. The only real downside is that there is no on-site staff. There is no one to receive or store your luggage before check-in, and the entire check-in process is done through a video call using a device at the entrance. You don’t interact with a staff member in person at any point during your stay. The hotel also doesn’t offer any additional amenities beyond what is already provided in the room. That said, the rooms are exceptionally spacious, very well equipped, spotless, and built to a high standard. Everything felt comfortable and well maintained. Even though we only stayed for a short time, we really enjoyed our stay and wished we had been able to spend more time there. Overall, if you’re looking for a large, clean, and comfortable place to stay in Hakone and don’t mind the fully self-service experience, this is an excellent choice."

"The service was excellent. The check in/out process was rather laborious. Many people are “parked” in the lounge until their turn is up. There was an afternoon ensemble in the lobby, while talented, was very loud- not something I would expect in a spa. The baths were wonderful and beautiful in the evening. Breakfast was varied, fresh and delicious."

"I liked the location and the public spaces. The half board was disappointing- basically a buffet with a small add on. The mountain view described for my room was a courtyard and the pictures of the private onsen did not match the reality. My stay was just fine but it did not meet the expectations set by the descriptions online."
