Brilliant stay, perfect location

We had a lovely stay at Cottage 1 with our black Labrador puppy on his first holiday! The cottage was beautifully equipped and big enough for us 3. It was lovely to pop into the deli just across the road and we felt the location was perfect for Brancaster, Holkham Hall, Sandringham, Burnham Market and Burnham Overy Staithe where we visited each day! Thank you, we will be returning!

A nice little cottage

Generally a well equipped cottage with some nice touches in terms of the welcome pack and toiletries. The location in Thornham was great but there was more noise from the road than we expected. Our home being in a very quiet location we probably noticed this more than many guest would. Two things let the cottage down. The first was the state of the fridge. The icebox was completely frosted our, the only shelf wobbly because it was broken and a door shelf was missing. The second was the private parking. A small area was provided for three cottages with each space marked. The space for cottage 1 was partly taken up by the bins and a wood store. Three cars could be parked but only if each driver carefully considered their position to leave space, especially with the size of cars many people choose to drive. On a couple of occasions this did not happen and we were forced to park at the Deli over the road. Not a problem overnight, however the Deli itself is short of parking when open. After one or two bad experiences we only book cottages with private parking so were less than happy about the situation. The owners would benefit from leaving instructions for the heating. Conscious of the cost we tried to turn it down when we were out but if was difficult without instructions even for my husband who can usually work these things out.

Smashing cottage in great village, not for those troubled by road noise though

We had a great stay in the cottage. It was clean, well equipped, warm, comfy bed, had a fabulous bathroom and near to pubs, the deli and walks out from the doorstep across the marsh to the beach. The garden was properly enclosed which was great for my dog. The only thing to be aware of is that the cottage does suffer from road noise which woke me up around 7am, and the garden in the summer would be too noisy for us as the road runs along the fence line. Some minor maintenance also required - defrost the freezer so that you can get something in it, the bathroom towel radiator didn't work.

A perfect couple’s retreat

We absolutely loved our stay at No 33 Cottage 1. Thornham is a beautiful village and the cottage is in a great position for a 1 min walk to the Deli which serves the most delicious food and a 5 minute stroll to the Lifeboat pub, which perfect for a lovely evening meal. Our dog was not only welcomed everywhere but was made to feel like the King he is! We will undoubtedly be back!

Comfy cottage in a great location

The cottage is opposite the deli which is great for breakfast and lunch. There is a lot of traffic noise but it didn’t keep us awake at night! The cottage was very warm and well equipped. The parking is very tight and had cottage four been occupied, it would have been difficult for us all to park. When you enter through the roadside gate, you do need to watch your step as the ground falls away! Overall, it’s a lovely cosy place to stay.

Cost cottage

Cost cottage, well equipped. Great location opposite the Deli and very close to Thornham Marshes. Main road can be busy - probably more so in summer. Nice pubs in Thornham!

Disappointed

When we book cottages we always go for luxury having stayed in some grotty cottages in the past. We didn't get it here. Yes all the finishing touches were lovely. The welcome basket of bread, biscuits and a bag of crisps as well as milk and orange juice in the fridge. The towels and bathroom accessories were all very nice. But the massive cobwebs in the bedroom windows, the fact that the extractor fan didn't work or that the patio door was stuck and took some effort to open. The cottage was right next to the main road and the parking meant bumping up the kerb and then beaching on the GPO covers because there was not enough gravel or ramps was not worth the luxury rating. Also considering it is owned by the Deli opposite, it was very nice to be offered a 10% discount card, but was disappointing that we could only use it if we ate in, considering the huge hike in all the prices in the shop. We have stayed in Thornham 3 times now from 6 bed houses with all the family to this 1 bed house. Unfortunately we wouldn't recommend this one to our friends.

Enjoyable Its a pity its on a busy road, and the parking is not ideal. Bed very comfortable, but cannot say the same about the sofa in the lounge.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely location

Beautifully designed and furnished cottage, in a great village- delicious food at the dog-friendly Lifeboat Inn & Orange Tree, coffee at the Thornham Deli over the road, and wonderful walks to the beach. We had a very relaxing and peaceful stay and will definitely book again. Secure garden for the dog. Only tiny downside was occasional traffic noise due to the proximity to the coast road.

Cottage 1 at Thornham

I have already raised the issues we had with the cottage with Norfolk Hideaways while we were staying there. I wouldn’t recommend the cottage at its present cost as I feel the downstairs area is more rustic than luxurious and therefore overpriced.

The perfect retreat

A little Idyll. I could not fault this accommodation, but special praise must go to the heating system- electric, very controllable- no need to light the wood burner even in winter, and plentiful VERY hot water for lovely baths. Bear in mind that there is little storage space in the kitchen area and no freezer, but for one person or a couple, would this matter? Also two TVs but only one remote- again not a problem for me on my own. As for the parking, yes it exists right by the cottage but consider your driving skills in reversing into the space in order to drive out forwards onto the A149, a busy road in season. I was lucky that there was no one in no 4 and so I could manoeuvre round the whole parking area. The deli across the road- who owns the property- has fantastic food to eat in or take away.

A honest view

The marketing of this property needs to be amended the photograph shows the property in such a way that it looks as if the cottage is set back from what I knew would be the road but on arrival we were next to the road and marketed as a quite getaway on the North Norfolk coast anything but with the fast traffic passing during the day and at night which lead to poor sleep over the three days. With no mention of the renervation work to the cottage immediately beside we did complain regarding the swearing from the builders on Friday on our arrival accompanied by music playing, also on the Saturday morning a contractor chose to unload furniture outside our kitchen window at 9.00 am which is not what we had expected. Had I known renervation work was taking place I would have not chosen this location. To be fair to the owner wine and chocolates were provided on our return a gesture welcomed and appreciated. It is vital that these issues are sorted for future guests and on a positive we had everything provided to make it a home from home with a welcome pack which was good to find on arrival. I feel the price we paid for this cottage was excessive and this does not help when planning a further visit to the coast we know other properties are available from this owner after this visit I would be reluctant to try another option, I hope these comments will be received and acted upon. kind regards Paul Utting

Building site next door!

Our holiday was spoilt by the building works carried out in the adjoining cottage. This was within the control of the owners of our cottage as they had just purchased this cottage, they scheduled builders whilst still taking bookings for the adjoining cottages. There was banging and lots of dust, not conducive to a relaxing holiday! Poor and slow response from Norfolk Hideaways, it took nearly a week to discover that they had contacted the owner and they were going to send someone out to sort things?? We heard nothing from anyone and how do you make builders you have commissioned demolish walls quietly? What a joke. Awful customer service from both no.33 and NH, avoid both...shocking.

A lovely cottage but oh ! that road !

A perfect little cottage, really comfortable and cosy with a sweet little garden at the back. The shared access at the front was a bit of a problem as the neighbours were in the process of moving out and kept leaving the gate open , a real worry given the cottage stands just about 3 feet from the main road and our little dog almost got out ! The position on the main coast road meant we couldn't sit in the garden as it was so noisy. Apart from this we could not fault the cottage, the bedroom and bathroom were superb.

A really lovely cottage with all the mod cons required and a shower to aspire to!

This was lovely for a long weekend and had everything we needed, Unfortunately, if you're looking for peace and quiet, this is not the cottage for you ... the cottage is side on to the road, and as such the garden is too! Sitting out is rather noisy (as the village is on the main North Norfolk coast road! Having said this, we weren't too bothered by the noise (it quietened down in the evening!), everyone in the village is lovely and really friendly and we had a great time walking on the beautiful beaches, and enjoying the village fete! The pubs were all great too!
