Had a wonderful overnight stay on route to Brighton. The evening meal choices were excellent and the food 1st class. Wide selection of self service choice at breakfast with an excellent coffee machine. Would definitely recommend and would stay again when in the area.

Okay stay
Not the most amazing stay. Pebbles in the car park make it very difficult to carry luggage into properly. It was raining and getting from my car into the property dragging luggage was through the pebbles ground wasn’t pleasant. They did wait up for me til about 10:45pm to check me and were quite friendly on arrival. The host was helpful in taking my case up to my room on my arrival but not very helpful at all when I was leaving the next morning and didn’t bat an eyelid when I was struggling with my case to leave. Incredible incredibly narrow stairs up to very odd located room. Very dangerous low sloped ceilings. Cosy breakfast area. But basic continental breakfast including packaged croissants & muffins, breakfast bars & cereals. Reasonably clean room.
Lovely cozy country pub serving fabulous food. Overnight accommodation very comfortable. Continental self serve breakfast on weekdays but cooked breakfast at weekends however it would be nice for a cooked breakfast on a bank holiday. Contact directly with the hotel with questions was tricky with no replies to messages or emails but I’d definitely visit again.
Easy parking, straight forward check in, the room was perfect for my wife & I, with 2 kids under 5. Dinner was well priced & delicious, both kids enjoyed their child portions. Bar was busy but service was great, back to our room for kids bedtime at 7 & a low murmur of noise from our room meant we all slept really well.
Opted not to have cooked breakfast but option was offered the night before, continental breakfast was more than adequate for us all. Played outside in the sunshine until time meant we had to head off, staying away with kids after 2 years of Covid could have been a hassle but not here - looking for an excuse to return!
A Charming 17th century building with good sized refurbished guest rooms with modern refurbished bathrooms. Very comfortable large double bed with fresh, clean linens & comfy pillows. Lovely location, very pleasant and welcoming staff. Very comprehensive continental breakfast. Excellent value for money. Would definitely stay again.
If like me you like a quiet nights sleep this is the place no traffic noise. Would stay again as friendly, clean, both staff and food excellent (upgrade weekend’s breakfast to cooked ) menu not extensive but very well cooked.
A lovely clean, welcoming and comfortable place to stay. We stayed for 2 nights and found out they also put on small event, so we are seriously considering booking out the Windmill for our small wedding reception. Oh and the food was amazing, just a shame they were not doing cook breakfasts at the time of our stay.
A wonderful Country Inn. Accommodation was great, clean, warm and comfortable. Staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Pet friendly in the hotel and the restaurant. Highly recommend.
It was a good stay the staff were brilliant, the food was brilliant, the bed was very comfortable but because the property is very old there were many many small steps everywhere. Because my wife and I are both late seventies we found it difficult to move around . However it’s a great place to stay for the young and fit guests.
Our room, No. 4, was actually two rooms. The one with a double bed in it overlooked a beer garden so we used the other room with twin beds. The beds were very narrow.
There is no table to place a laptop or to put one's things; no suitcase rack because there is no room for one and no tissues are provided.
The ante room between the bedrooms and the shower room was brightly lit by three, bright in-ceiling lights that were activated by a sensor. This assured that anyone going for a pee in the night is truly awakened by the light.
The carpets were soiled and were physically dirty too, which was off-putting.
The shower room was small, but the shower enclosure was adequate and the water pressure and temperature were both good. No amenities were provided and there were no hooks to hang towels. These are basic amenities every decent hostelry should provide.
Dinner was good. The chef is the property's asset. Breakfast, however, was self-service with nothing cooked or hot on offer. There was no butter; only a tub or some spreadable alternative that had been used by other guests and had traces of jam, marmalade and crumbs running through it. Yuck!
The breakfast area was not clean and the table that had been laid for us was sticky, so breakfast was altogether unappetising. We ended up having cereal, coffee and nothing else.
Nice room but being an old building the floors are not level so you can feel a bit “drunk” when walking around or lying in bed. Lovely to have an en suite with a bath. Breakfast was ok (continental) but there was no apparent access to water, which for me is important as I don’t drink tea or coffee. My evening meal was good - I had the local sausages and mash with peas - but the friendly and courteous service was very slow.
Lovely place to stay, great friendly and efficient service. Only one night for business, but great for my needs.
Note of caution for anyone tall- bedroom 5 may be a bit of a head injury risk 😅
Lovely peaceful and rural place to eat and stay. Staff were super, great food and beer! Room perfect for our stay and definitely would stay again. Thank you to the team at The Windmill.
Clean and spacious room although air freshner type smell a bit overpowering at first- not suitable for an asthma sufferer.
Friendly and accomodating service.
Self service continental style breakfast good.
Very narrow stairs to rooms, may not be suitable for anyone with a disability or who struggles carrying cases/ bags.
Would stay again.
The Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, (manager helped us with taxis both days) , the room was lovely, very clean, gorgeous bed - very comfy, excellent shower (im a massive shower snob so was very pleased there), we even got given little chocolate mints on our pillows. Excellent breakfast, and a really cute pub dog :)
Historical yet renewed, rural, friendly, great food and service, great opportunity to visit with locals. Close access by taxi to the hamlet of Shipley (our family name) and easy access to Gatwick via taxi. Not easily accessed by bus.
Wonderful relaxing 2 night stay. Soooo comfy bed. Spent one evening sitting in wing chairs by the old fireplace soaking in the ambience of a well visited local pub..
Great food and service but steep narrow steps to room. Could have been a little cleaner. Bed very comfy and pub had nice atmosphere. Parking a little difficult.
