Slightly further a field there is Fort Derussy Park, and Ala Moana Beach park providing large less crowded beaches than central Waikiki, but with the same safety and conveniences surrounding you.
For eating their is an endless supply of fine eating establishments within walking distance, the "Charthouse " at the base of the building is a local favorite, and has great live music for dinnertime.
