Horrible STINK goes with uninterested owners.

Apparently, the previous owner (grandparent of current owner) was wonderful and made this place great. New owners work other full-time jobs, and have little time or interest in maintaining the reputation. Dirty everywhere, including kitchen and fridge. Owners often away without notice and without locking up. No security for person or goods on site. Hot tub not working. No wifi. Zero amenities. Dog and three cats in house. The STINK is awful. Smells like a combination of pet feces, mould, and decay. Permeates every corner of the building, even with all windows wide open, including the outside front porch. Watch where you're walking, because pets defalcate anywhere, with no cleanup. Gardens are a mass of weeds. Dirty ash trays. Half waffle, 3 Icelandic waffles and 2 sausages for brekkie, with OJ and (Folgers?) tasteless coffee. All-in-all, have reported the facility to Manitoba Health, as it is not a safe place to stay. Stay away.

Solmundson Gesta Hus is a charming house owned by a sweet couple: Jonathan & Sydney Caines. They are incredibly hospitable, professionally trained in the culinary arts, and are great sources of information about Hecla Island (history and present). The house is literally across the road from Lake Winnipeg and is surrounded by amazing scenery. If you visit, be aware there are roaming creatures, mainly Canadian geese, so watch your step. Highly recommended and well worth your drive (we drove 1200 km and did not regret a minute of it).

Sehr liebevolle Gastgeber in der Idylle

Direkt am Lake Winnipeg in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Lake Winnipeg liegt dieses schöne Gästehaus. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt! Wenn man in dieser Region ist,sollte man sich dort ein Zimmer nehmen. Sehr bemüht waren sie auch ums Frühstück!

Stay here in Spring or Fall - not summer.

The people running this B&B were great, as well as the big and delicious breakfasts. However, the air conditioning did not make it up to the 2nd floor, so the nights were way too hot. Hecla area is wonderful - enjoyed our time there. No WIFI was a bit of a bummer.

Very nice place to stay near the beach

The owner and her family were very friendly and welcoming. We felt like we were staying in our own house. Except for minor clogged bathroom sink the house overall was very cleaned. We had a very good breakfast and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend this place to friends.

Lake Front B&B

This was our first time staying at a B&B and we would definitely do it again. Sharon is such a sweet lady and she makes the best crepes as well! She definitely makes you feel at home if not even better than home because you don't have to do anything but enjoy your surroundings! Who could ask for more!

Fantastic little getaway

It was near the provincial campground where our kids and grandkids were camping and we could spend the day with them. The breakfasts were out of this world

Quiet getaway

Hosts were warm and friendly. Lively chats around the table. Beautiful veranda for just sitting and looking at the lake. Nice that technology doesn't intrude there. A favorite place for peace and refreshment.

There were two of us, older ladies,who stayed two nights in Hecla at the B&B. The scenery was truly beautful, the air so fresh and our host and hostess made us very welcome. The hostess's gardens were a lovely site. It was somewhere I would go again for sure.

Quaint jem off of the beaten path

Comfortable, homey feel. Owners warm, welcoming and accommodating. Opportunities to tour or just decompress depending upon your needs. Excellent homemade breakfast provided. Highly recommended!

Our one night stay

A nice friendly greeting, followed by a tour of the guest house, amenities and a description of the local area. The room and adjoining bathroom were clean and tidy. Despite the season for fish-flies we were able to take long walks as it was so quiet and peaceful. Breakfast was served between 8 and 10 the following day and there was plenty of it. We are definitely planning on staying there either again this year or next year.

Very relaxing, comforting. Extra guests gave a "family". Lots of hiking and walking if you choose to. Stairs to second floor were steep. If you have trouble with stairs, ask about the main floor bedroom.

Solmundson Gesta Hus Bed & Breakfast-Hecla Island

Lovely lakefront bed and breakfast. Great family atmosphere, We had the queen ensuite which included the three piece bath. Veranda faces the lake in Hecla Village. Great homemade breakfast which included omlets, bacon, toast, homemade jams and a variety of fruit and juice. Very cosy.
