We loved every minute of our vacation on Eleuthera. This was our first trip to Eleuthera, but certainly not our last.
First about the house: The house is beautiful and it was stocked with everything we needed for our stay. The house was even more beautiful in person. We fixed a few meals at the house and had all the pots and pans and utensils we needed. Matt and Tara were quick to answer all our questions and they were great to work with. There are not adequate words to describes how beautiful the beach and view is at this house. It is amazing. The first two or three days the water was so calm and clear that it looked like a bathtub...albeit a big bathtub with shells, colorful fish, lots of starfish, and even a stingray. I have some pictures I took of the shells in the water and you can't tell that it's a picture of water. We also got to experience some storms at the end of the week. The waves really crashed up against the pilings and water was up on the concrete under the house.
The house is centrally located on the island and made getting around very easy. I highly recommend buying The Beach Book on Amazon. Besides "our beach", some of our favorite places we went to were Lighthouse Beach, Surfer's Beach, Pink Sand Beach on Harbour Island, and Glass Window Bridge. Highly recommend renting a jeep for the high clearance. We chartered a boat/captain and went snorkeling, conch diving, and to the marker bars. LOVED that day! We found lots of good shells at our beach snorkeling, at Comber's Beach (only good thing about that beach), and at the marker bars. Found a huge, beautiful conch shell over 12" long. We found tons of sea glass at Surfer's Beach.
The people are so friendly on Eleuthera. We never met a stranger the entire week. My favorite part of the entire week was church on Sunday at Governor's Harbour Wesley Methodist Church. The church is beautiful, the music was amazing, and the people made us feel like family.
Eleuthera is not the place for you if you like an action packed vacation with lots of activities and people, roller coasters and theme parks, or vacations in a concrete jungle. However, if you want to get away from the stresses of every day life, stare at the most amazing scenery, and fully embrace "island time", then give Eleuthera a try. I started planning our next trip to Eleuthera on the flight home!
