"Les Mirabelles" in deep rural France -
Les Mirabelles (formerly Fig Tree) - This gite is part of an ancient farmhouse which is set in its own private grounds of 0.5 acres. The property, which dates from before the French revolution, has been tastefully restored to include all modern amenities without losing its rustic charm and character.
"Les Mirabelles" gite was the old cattle shed, housing hay lofts and oxen which ploughed the local fields and vineyards. Now renovated to a charming, self-contained accommodation, and replicating the characteristic beams, stone walls and floors which is set in the deep French countryside. The gite overlooks the garden and mixed fruit orchard. The gite is secluded and separate from the main farmhouse with its own front door and double door opening on to the garden. Guests have the private use of the swimming pool.
You enter the gite through the front door and you are greeted with an open plan living area which is light and airy.
There are a number of walks - the modest Gardonette stream is an amazing route takings its source not far from Monbazillac and then losing itself in the Dordogne some 50km or so. A journey that mingles between hillsides covered with vineyards, sunflower and cornfields, meadows and small shady valleys which in passing, greets hamlets, or chateaux and provides the rambler with a few surprises! The Gardonette takes the rambler into another experience.
Saussignac takes you approximately 15-20 minutes to reach along an old Roman road through the vines. Gageac has a beautiful chateau and the superb vineyard of 'Clos de Vigne' - the subject of Patricia Atkinson's best selling books - "The Ripening Sun" and "La Belle Saison".
Sigoules is set amongst the vineyards where you will find a selection of shops (baker, butcher, grocery store, a hairdresser and also a doctor and pharmacy!|). For those of you who desire an active outdoor break, the area is very popular with cyclists as there are lots of quiet roads. There are also popular 3 day canoeing trips down the Dordogne with camping provided. Golf (18 hole) at the famous "Chateau de Vigiers" - just a few kilometres away and may be followed by an excellent lunch or dinner in their restaurant. Tennis and horse riding are among other sports facilities available.
All summer long, the medieval town of Bergerac has many wonderful restaurants - just 15 minutes drive from the gite. Saussignac, Sigoules, Eymet and Issigeac and other local towns have markets, concerts and exhibitions with lots to do and see.
"Les Mirabelles" gite offers you a perfect location from which to base yourself whilst you pursue whatever activities you enjoy most. The gite is set in half-acre of land with a typical country garden. A private swimming pool which is not overlooked, offers privacy for the bather. The gite accommodation is full of rustic charm with oak beams, a log fire (for winter visitors). There is an open plan dining and sitting room, with kitchen attached. A modernised shower/wet room is on the same floor. A mezzanine floor provides bedroom for 2 people. French and English TV is provided with numerous DVD's as well as board games.

We enjoyed our stay at Les Mirabelles. Jill and Marylene were good hosts. We enjoyed eating outside on the terrace, using the pool to cool down and we visited from Bordeaux up to Les Eyzies. Good location if you want to take a train and cycle, which we did several times, as Gardonne station is close by. Also lots of vineyards close by.
We had an amazing stay, Jill and Marylene were wonderful! They had a wealth of knowledge of the surrounding history in the area which was so interesting. We were left to ourselves and the gite was perfect. It had everything you needed, even some left over mosquitos spray which you will need being close to the Dordogne. The pool was welcome due to the heat and warm. You couldn’t wish for a more relaxing stay and lovely people. We visited Eymet and Montpazier two beautiful villages, with shops, markets and restaurants both recommended, but mostly stayed at the gite which says it all I think.

Very clean and conveniently located for visiting attractions in the area and further afield. Access to the mezanine floor may not be suitable for an elderly couple.
The property has been renovated to a high standard and retains plenty of character, very comfortable and well equipped. It’s set in a picturesque rural location. Bergerac is a short drive away and there are plenty of super street markets to visit and chateaux if that’s your interest, or just relax by the lovely swimming pool.
The host is really accommodating. Highly recommended.
Helpful host who adjoins the property so any issues easily resolved as they are on hand. Was very hot when we stayed and although fans provided it made sleeping in the mezzanine very warm. The pool was a welcome relief and kept spotlessly clean by the host who shut it down each evening and cleaned each day. Lovely welcome ‘basket!’ of wine, bread, pizza etc. great location to visit Saint Emilion, Bergerac etc and lots of fabulous markers. Would stay again
We really enjoyed our relaxing week in this lovely, well equipped gite in the French countryside. The accommodation is full of character and charm, and the garden is delightful. The pool is lovely and clean, and great for cooling off on a hot day.
Jill and Marylene are both so kind and helpful, and there is a huge amount of information about the local area, and both French and English books to read if you have an idle moment. Situated in quiet countryside with easy access to great restaurants in Monestier and Queyssac - both highly recommended! A short drive to Bergerac too, which is an interesting old town.
We had a wonderful stay at Les Mirabelles. The two hosts, Jill and Marylene, are great people and are happy to provide tips on trips and markets in the region. Thank you again for that! The accommodation is very nice with great facilities. We used the sofa bed on the ground floor. Everything is there that you need for a relaxing holiday. The pool and the cute kittens and Twingo were particularly nice. We really enjoyed it and we say thank you and wish Jill and Marylene all the best.
Les Mirabelles was such a joy to stay at.
We felt so spoilt by the peacefulness and tranquility whilst lying by the beautiful pool which is surrounded by French lavender and beautiful roses and in the 30° heat, the pool was the perfect temperature to cool us down.
Jill & Marylene were incredible hosts. They were always around if we needed anything or advice on where to go but we had such privacy that we never felt intruded on. The gite was immaculate and had everything we needed from corkscrews/bottle openers (vital) to tea/coffee and all the basics.
We would 100% recommend them to anyone we know & wouldn’t hesitate in booking again!
Thank you again for the most wonderful stay!

The rustic property, in a rural location, is outwardly very pretty. Inside, it’s a little gloomy and cluttered for our liking although I suppose that’s to be expected from a property of this nature and a feature which I’m sure will be appreciated by a lot of visitors. The pool is cleaned and prepared for use daily, which was appreciated. It should be noted however that it’s not ‘completely’ private, as per the description, and can be viewed easily from the owner’s adjoining property. There was no time, while using the pool, when we saw the owner and I’m sure they do their best to provide privacy but this isn’t quite the same as it being ‘completely’ private. The part of the description I take greatest umbrage with is that it’s air conditioned (along with an icon of an air conditioning unit). This property is NOT air conditioned and I don’t consider the provision of two modestly sized fans a replacement for actual, bonafide air conditioning. I did point this out to Jill but my thoughts were dismissed out of hand. I find this description at best to be clumsy, and at worse, misleading. We stayed for nine days, the first two being over 30C, and the mezzanine was unbearably hot overnight. Mercifully, the remainder were low 20C and the place was fine. Prospective renters should be aware of this and be mindful of the expected weather at the time of their proposed booking!
Beautiful propery in a wonderful area so peaecful and tranquil, jill the owner is a lovley woman and so knowledgeable about the area and all the markets, ideal place to stop and relax or to explore all this area has to offer.
A fantastic gite with pool and gorgeous garden. Jill is a very caring host and provided lots of tips and ideas nformation to help us explore the region.
My wife and I spent a gorgeous 16 days at Les Mirabelles. The gite was well maintained and spacious enough for the two of us. The pool was beautiful and very clean. Jill and Marianne were always on hand with advice on the local area.
Gardonne is well located to visit lovely local villages and Bergerac.

As seasoned travellers we both prefer a keybox and independent check in but if you prefer a personal touch then this is for you. At the time of our stay the lights in the main room didn't work, the WiFi was incredibly poor and this was not because of poor regional connection because roaming was excellent. The bed was the main issue though because it was terrible, so uncomfortable words fail me,, it needs sorting out.The pool was lovely and the owners worked hard to make it so, but it isn't as private as we thought it would be from previous reviews. The owners provided lots of welcoming touches and were very knowledgeable about the area.
We stayed for 3 weeks and loved every minute. The private patio / garden were perfect and so was the spotlessly clean and well maintained private pool. We have stayed in a lot of gites in France and this was up with the best. The welcome pack and figs from the tree in the garden were an amazing bonus. Jill and Marylene were lovely hosts and gave us some interesting background information to the area and advice when asked. We really enjoyed our stay at Les Mirabelles and would 100% recommend it.

Beautifully renovated gite set in attractive gardens - spacious and very comfortable place to stay
We have had the most wonderfully relaxing holiday in this lovely gite.
It was as comfortable as being at home but with sooo much more !
The private pool, secluded gardens and sun trap patios were a delight - along with the resident chickens !
Our hosts Jill and Marylene were outstanding - nothing was too much trouble and their excellent company was most appreciated - we like to think that we have come away as friends.
We definitely hope to return soon - in fact when we returned home
and woke the next day we wished we were still at the gite!
Thank you again for such an enjoyable stay 😊
We had a very nice relaxing stay in Les Mirabelles. Jill was a gracious host and even supplied some staples in the fridge on our arrival as well as a bottle of wine! The gîte is beautifully decorated with lovely antique furniture and dinnerware and a well equipped kitchen. The area has a lot of villages with wonderful markets on different days of the week as well as being close to Bergerac. Jill has an amazing, well organized, amount of information for the area. A good restaurant in the area is the Grappe d’Or where we enjoyed the specialty du Périgord. A very nice stay and highly recommend!
This property could be fabulous as it’s a great size but it falls short in many areas. Pool area great but needs a good clean under shaded area. The rest of the outside areas and some indoor areas would also benefit greatly from a deep clean. Bedding and towels poor quality and curtains light and flimsy in lower bedrooms. One of the bedrooms aircon not working and took over 4 days to sort so couple in that room really struggled. Terrace area on top floor great for us all to gather and enjoy food and drinks but again not as clean as it could be. Location was great with lots of eating places close by and very handy for taxis and local bus service. Wouldn’t take much to bring this villa up to an acceptable standard and for the cost of renting for a week this hopefully will happen.

Superb Gite Home from Home
Jill greeted us with such a warm welcome to her beautiful gite. Beautiful surroundings, peaceful and relaxing in the heart of the countryside. The gite was gorgeous and had everything we needed for a lovely chilled stay. Lots of little extras that made our stay. Bath Robes, Slippers, Good quality bed linen, plus more. Jill supplied us with some home made jam and also fresh eggs from the Hens. Both were a nice surprise along with our welcome pack. We also met Jill's friend Marilene who supplied us with some maps for walks around the area and recommendations for places to visit. This holiday has been made so special because such a special couple of people took time out to ensure we enjoyed the full week. It was a holiday to remember for all the right reasons.
A well appointed gite attached to the owners property. The patio area is small accommodating a 2 person garden table and 2 loungers. The pool is shared (potentially) with the owners and is kept immaculately. The property is beside a road which was busier than expected and surrounded by established hedges which kept it private but meant no view. There were shaded areas in the garden if the heat was too much.
The welcome pack was excellent and we received occasional gifts of eggs and other produce.
There was a wealth of information available for walks, markets etc.
Perfect for a couple who want some time out to chill and relax.

The perfect gite.
We have been able to spend 3 weeks at Les Mirabelles - having visited it previously when it was Fig Tree Cottage. The gite is the perfect place to rest and unwind, and has all you need for a self catering holiday. The 'icing on the cake' is the private swimming pool, where you can cool off with a relaxing swim. The new owner, Jill, was the perfect hostess. Jill was always on hand if needed, but also respected our privacy. Her welcome gifts were much appreciated, as were the frequent supplies of fresh eggs and tomatoes.
Les Mirabelles is ideally situated for visiting this part of the Dordogne. We especially enjoyed Issigeac, Monpazier and Eymet. There are lots of places for tasting the local wine. The winery at Sigoules is a must - great wine at great prices.
Thank you Jill. You and your gite are very special.
We hope to see you again next summer.

Amazing, quiet, peaceful and perfect
We had just under two weeks here and it’s got to be the best time we have had on holiday for a long time.
The gite. Nice and clean and cool when the temperature got to over 35. It has everything you could need and more. You can instantly tell that a lot of thought has been put into making guests comfortable. The pool, well what can you say apart from perfect for a dip all day and even late evening. After the drive from home it was nice to just jump right in.
Jill. Jill and her French friend (Marielen)are amazing nothing is too much for them to help with. even when the car has an issue, they got us to the local garage that night. They also provided some loverly eggs from the hens and a couple of beers and a bottle of wine on arrival. Also having their local knowledge on what to do and where to go is something you can’t beat. Having not been before we both feel like we have left two really good friends in the Dordogne.
If you are looking for a place to stay, look no more it’s perfect in every way. Private pool, location, local knowledge and a relaxing atmosphere all lead to you not wanting to leave.
THANK YOU both for an amazing break and yes, we will be back for sure.

Château chat?
The property and general location are what we were hoping for during our stay. However, for those driving an electric vehicle: the nearest charging station is a 45-minute walk away and there is no charging option onsite. Plan a hike around your charging time.
The property description lists chickens that roam free in the yard with eggs on request - we didn't see any chickens, but did see at least thirty cats roaming the property during our stay. The host mentioned most are feral and is part of a broader feral cat issue across France (I cannot speak to the truth of this claim). However, anyone staying should be prepared to interact with cats - seeing them, smelling their waste in the yard (beside the outdoor dining space), and, at least in our case, having one jump onto the bed through the roof window and racing wildly around the gite at 2am.
When we brought this to our host's attention, she dismissively said there was nothing she could do to control these cats on her property. Barring any further action by the host guests should be prepared for feline hijinks during their stay.
The pool was lovely and cleaned daily, however is not as private as stated in the description - the hosts still used the pool when we were out, but vacated the space when we got back. A tarp divider provides mild privacy between both properties, but guests should be aware the host residence & garden is directly next to the pool area.
The building has a charming character, and lots of potential.
