The Stone Well Haus | Pet Friendly

This completely restored German Farmhouse was built in 1920 by Otto Schneider who owned the local grocery and bottling company. Upon entering this historic property, you'll notice it is appropriately named The Stone Well Haus because of the well located in the living room. Although the well was previously located on the back porch, it wasn't uncommon for homes to have indoor cisterns to have access to fresh water. Expertly restored in 2016, the well is now covered and used as an end table and conversational centerpiece in the large open concept living, dining, and kitchen area. With plenty of windows to the back yard, this makes it the ideal place for entertaining both indoors and out.

The house is perfectly furnished throughout with a mix of modern furnishings and the owner's family antiques including a loom built in 1879 and a pie safe made by your hostess's great great grandfather. The master bedroom offers the perfect retreat with an iron king size bed and neutral linens with an en suite bath. Located up the original wood staircase are the other two bedrooms, second full bath, and writer's nook. The second King suite is large enough to be a second master and just as tranquil with a bath right outside the room. Two charming twin beds are located in the third bedroom providing a perfect haven for kids or additional guests.

The Stone Well Haus is also the perfect place for Fido! Your hosts have provided everything they might need including dog crates, bowls, and a fenced in yard making it the optimal getaway for everyone.

The home is dog-friendly and will accept up to two dogs. However, there is a pet fee of $16/dog/night. Due to the fact that HomeAway/VRBO does not allow us to charge for more than one dog at the time of booking, please let us know if you will be bringing more than one dog, so that we can make sure that you are charged the correct amount. If you bring more than one dog and do not let us know, you will be charged accordingly. Furthermore, please bring crates for your dogs and crate them in your absence from the house, do not allow the dogs on furniture or beds, and pick up and properly dispose of their waste. If these rules are not followed, there will be an additional $200 charge added to your reservation.

We very much enjoyed our stay here! It was walking distance to Main Street which was great for our kids (14 & 11). The home was very clean and comfortable. It was also decorated for Christmas which I didn’t necessarily expect, but was wonderful. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a home In Fredericksburg.

Absolutely beautiful home. Myself and 5 other girls stayed for the weekend and we all wanted to remodel our houses like this one. Very nice inside and out with plenty of room. Bathrooms and kitchens were very nice and the owners thought of everything.

This was the perfect house for our annual family "girls trip" in Fredericksburg. The updates were wonderful, and we were impressed by the very nice downstairs master suite! The open floor plan allowed for easy conversation, and the kitchen, with the large island, was the perfect morning gathering spot! Great location within walking distance of main street. Would definitley recommend staying here! (Only drawback would be the steep stairs to the upper level ... a little tricky when carrying suitcases up ... but we managed without any issues)

Fredericksburg is one of our favorite Texas destinations. We have stayed in various Sunday Houses but the Stone Well will be the home we keep coming back to. We loved everything about the home. It's spacious and clean, has great amenities and is in a charming old neighborhood a short walk from Main Street. Being able to bring our dogs made it extra special.

We reserved this house with another family for the holiday parade weekend, and it was perfect! A bedroom for each couple and one for the kids. It was nicely appointed and we had everything we needed including snacks and dishes. Everything in the house worked, it was immaculately clean, beds were comfortable, would definitely stay here again. The upstairs bedrooms are on different sides of the stairs which allowed for some privacy from the kids which was nice. Highly recommend this lovely home!

This is the 4th time I've stayed at this house with different groups of friends. The location is so convenient to walk to Main Street and the house is ideal for a group of 6 People. The beds are comfortable, the house is always clean and cute. I do wish there was more of an L shaped couch in the living room for hanging out and watching movies, as we always do that one night when we are there. The chairs are pretty small to get comfortable in. But overall, I would rent this place again!

I would give The Stone Well Haus itself a "5" rating. It's a very nice, spacious house with updated baths & kitchen. Gasthaus Schmidt was very helpful at booking - but not responsive to the water all over the floor from the leaking refrigerator I informed them of upon our arrival. I went into the office the following day. Two days later the problem was still not addressed. They also didn't seem too interested in the list of items I left them concerning the home. They were nothing big, but could be if left unaddressed. So, I give The Stone Well Haus a 5, and Gasthaus Schmidt a 3.

I have stayed in Fredericksburg 20 times over the last decade and there is a lot of availability as well as competition. This property was completely unprepared for guest. The backyard was in complete disarray. The house was dirty. The furniture was cheap and stained. The couch was gross to sit on You really didnt want to eat there because it was so dirty. It was completely overpriced and has changed the way I look at reviews.

This is a beautifully renovated house and is very well stocked with all the necessary amenities. We really appreciated all of the dog friendly touches with this property. Location is wonderful and it is pretty easy to walk to the main drag in town. Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much. There were a few cleanliness issues that could be improved, but I am maybe overly observant about these things and it is fine for most other folks. The management team is very responsive and helpful. Would definitely recommend a stay at this house!

The house was very clean and comfortable except for the upstairs temperature. When we arrived the temperature upstairs was 80 degrees. We attempted to lower the AC to cool it to comfortable temperature but it did not cool past 78 degrees, while one room had ni air blowing through the vent. My party had to sleep on air mattresses on the floor when I had specifically chosen this home to accommodate my entire party. The on call person was very responsive to getting an AC guy out but the upstairs never did get comfortable enough to sleep in the rooms upstairs.

We had a wonderful stay at Stonewell house. It’s a big house with comfortable beds and updated bathrooms. We had our dog, and everything was provided in the house including crates, dog bowls, fenced yard etc. we did forget our poop bags and had to make a trip to HEB for them. A few extra bags in the house would be great, other than that everything was wonderful. Highly recommended!
