The hotel is fine enough in terms of the property itself. It is the staff that make this hotel a place I will not return. Service was scarce at best and charges will be filed upon check out without notification from the desk or receipt of any kind. A mistake I would not recommend to others.

Let me start by saying that the location of La Jolla Shores Hotel is absolutely outstanding. In fact, the location is the primary reason I am giving this property 3 stars instead of 1. I would like the owners and management to understand something important: a hotel’s rating should reflect the entire guest experience, not just its location. In my opinion, location should account for no more than 20% of an overall rating. The remaining 80% should reflect accommodations, comfort, amenities, customer service, and management’s attitude toward guests. Because La Jolla Shores Hotel occupies such a desirable beachfront location, with virtually no comparable hotels directly on this stretch of beach, it enjoys a significant competitive advantage. Unfortunately, my impression is that this lack of competition has resulted in complacency. It sometimes feels as though the owners and management believe the location alone is enough to justify the prices, regardless of the quality of the accommodations or service. Rooms and Balconies — Disappointing First, I strongly recommend avoiding rooms with balconies unless they have a genuine ocean view. Many of the other balconies offer almost no privacy. Some are positioned so close to one another that you could practically climb from one balcony to the next. Guests can easily see into neighboring rooms unless the curtains are kept closed. What is the point of paying for a balcony when you cannot comfortably enjoy it or even leave your curtains
