This property is beyond beautiful. It blends historical lodge charm w/ modern accents. The staff is very nice & accommodatable. Kenny is a delight. Definitely coming back!
Super cool. We loved everything about it! History and antiques!! Service over the top!! Not much to do in the very small town but Ferndale is only about 15 to 20 minutes away. The town of Ferndale is a must see!!
This is a historic hotel with plenty of charm. Rooms are not air conditioned. We stayed on a day where the temperatures were in the low 60s and it was still a bit too warm in the room, although they do provide fans. Dinner was so-so with only one vegetarian option. There is a market across the street but it doesn’t have a huge selection. Closest food is miles away so keep that in mind. Again, this is an older property so rooms are not soundproofed at all. The staff is fantastic. Very helpful and friendly. Overall a beautiful spot but room was too warm and a bit loud.
Staying at the historic Scotia Lodge was one of the highlights of our trip! This beautifully restored 100+ year-old hotel is full of character while still offering all the modern comforts you need. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome with their warm hospitality and outstanding service.
The rooms were comfortable, clean, and perfectly captured the charm of the lodge's rich history. It's the perfect place to unwind after exploring the nearby redwoods and the Avenue of the Giants. Every corner of the property has a unique story, making the stay feel like stepping back in time in the best possible way.
If you're looking for a one-of-a-kind place to stay in Northern California, I can't recommend Scotia Lodge enough. Beautiful historic atmosphere, friendly staff, and an unforgettable experience. We'll definitely be back!
Unique stay in a historic building. Staff was pleasant and rooms were nice and had a unique character to the entire place. My biggest complaint would be that at no point during booking or up until check in had I been made aware that the onsite restaurant and bar were both Closed 3 days of the week Mon-Wed. Being that there is no option other than a small grocery storer for food within 10 of 15 mins of the lodge this was a huge pain. Originally, it was the reason I booked was the ability to arrive and not have to leave for the evening we expected to be able to dine and have cocktails onsite. No breakfast but they did have a coffee pot and a few muffins available in the lobby after 730 am. As with many older buildings and coastal areas there is NO A/C here. only a floor fan and the ability to open the windows.
Room was clean. Bar was great. Restaurant was terrible but staff were very apologetic. Fryer didn’t work. Chicken was unavailable. Pretty venue but view out the back was awful. Clean room. Great mattress. Tub and shower was clean and looked great but a bit disconcerting because it shifted with your weight. Windows needed screens. No coffee until after 8 in the lobby. Staff tried hard. Infrastructure needs help.
I wish we stayed longer than just overnight. Evening staff were crazy helpful and super friendly. If I am ever back down there I will go out of my way to stay here again. Highly recommend this hotel.
The staff were all very friendly and offered suggestions on restaurants and sights. We were greeted every time we came through the lobby. The rooms were spacious and clean.
The room was stunning with a meld of 1940s style and updates. The bed was so comfortable I’d consider buying that brand for my home. The staff were friendly and very kind to our dog who even got to pick a toy. The grounds are beautiful and take you back in time.
We recently stayed at Scotia Lodge to celebrate my partner's birthday, and overall, it was a memorable experience. The lodge itself is absolutely beautiful—a wonderfully restored historic building that serves as an incredible home base near Redwood National and State Parks. Our room was excellent, featuring a super comfy bed and a wonderful restoration that strikes a great juxtaposition between modern design and historical charm.
The standout was definitely the staff. They were exceptionally welcoming and went out of their way to make my partner's birthday stay feel extra special.
That said, there are a couple of things to watch out for. First, the on-site restaurant and bar were closed during our stay (which was our fault for missing their posted operating hours when booking, as they are closed on certain days). Still, it's a real bummer since the surrounding area is essentially a food and beverage desert. While I completely understand the staffing and profitability challenges of running a kitchen midweek, when you're the only game in town for miles, it's tough not having anywhere else to grab a bite or a drink on a Wednesday night.
The other major downside is that the plumbing needs an update—the water pressure was near zero, which made taking a shower pretty difficult.
If they can get the water pressure sorted, it would be close to perfection. Just make sure to double-check their kitchen hours and pack some extra provisions if you're staying during the week!
Staff was very nice and accommodating. Decent size parking lot. I was there for a wedding reception and stayed one night. The heater in the room wasn’t working so they brought up a nice portable heater that worked very well and kept the room toasty warm. I enjoyed staying at the Scotia Lodge.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
It is a very unique lodge: beautiful rooms: we found everything we needed and the room was very clean. The hotel left some alcohol samples in the room, which is a great touch, along with apple juices and chocolates. The staff was extremely friendly, and accommodating.
