After booking, the host requested a “security deposit” not charged/collected at booking. The resultant "deposit" actually increased my nightly rate and was not shown as a "deposit". Host also asked me to sign a separate rental agreement with wording that differed slightly from the house rules agreed to at booking. The agreement stated the deposit could be forfeited for breaking rules (e.g., shoes in the house, trash), not just for damage.I contacted Vrbo support, who confirmed the additional "deposit" charge violated their policies and could not be processed. I was willing to pay the deposit to keep the reservation, but Vrbo would not allow it as it was not allowed per VRBO.At approximately 10 PM the night before check-in, the host canceled the reservation citing “house rules violations,” despite no stay having occurred. This left my family without accommodations hours before our flight and forced us to cancel the trip. Vrbo issued a full refund and provided a care credit afterward
