We were greeted on arrival by the owner, who was extremely welcoming and hospitable. The room was extremely spacious and well appointed and the breakfast excellent. Dullstroom is evidently the highest town in South Africa at well over 2000 metres above sea level. As such it is somewhat cooler than most of the country and provided a welcome respite. We would have no hesitation in recommending Critchley Hackle and hope to return ourselves next year.

Mooi authentiek
Spent 1 night, room clean, bed comfortable. Cold at night and fire was lit in room. Electric blankets provided. Meals tasty. Staff helpful. No wifi

Although the setting is beautiful, the hotel appears worn down and needs attention. The room, supposed to be a superior room, was shabby and is badly in need of a proper upgrade.
Stayed one night because of unexpected day trip to Vic Falls. Booked it late. Friendly receptionist. Great room/suite. Had drink at bar then went out for dinner. Packed breakfast ready for early departure next morning. Looked like a great place to relax but no time!
The area, buildings, environment, nature, garden, restaurant all beautiful....however: the carpets in the room really need to be cleaned.
I also requested a room with aircon and a king sized bed, however, we got a room without aircon, and two queen sized beds pushed together.
Dinner I thought was expensive but delicious. R250 would have been better. Relish white crisp cotton sheets nice decor lovely setting tasteful decor and free breakfast. Will definately be back.

Still a diamond, but needs to be cleaned
I have previously stayed at this hotel a couple of years ago and the look and feel was fantastic! not much has happened since then, rooms ect are still the same. One can see that no upgrades have been done in years.
Very good with excellent setting, ambiance, classy relaxed background music, good food and service.

For the price and the star rating I expected much more. The bathroom was very small and needs maintenance. The paint on the ceiling in the shower is peeling. There was no room service available as we were told and when we visited the bar later in the evening there was no service so we left and went somewhere else.
We stayed the night for our wedding anniversary, they sent a bottle of champagne to our room, this was a wonderful gesture. The room was warm and comfy and a beautiful view of the dam.Breakfast was amazing. Staff were super friendly
We had a warm and cosy winter stay over between Mpumalanga and JHB. We had a good breakfast looking out over the picturesque fishing dam. There was an issue with our Hotels.com booking, however the hotel management fixed this quickly for us.
Professional but very personal service. The breakfast that is included is of very high quality. For all meals the chef's food is of gourmet quality. Rooms are big enough and the setting next to the dam but in the centre of the town is great.
Only a one night stay. Good location- great setting next to man-made lake. Great service by all staff. Upgraded to lake-view on arrival. Food was quite good. Room perhaps need an upgrade (particularly carpets). Overall, recommend this hotel.
We broke up our trip between Kruger and Joburg with an overnight at this lovely oasis in Dullstroom and it was well worth it. Excellent service, friendly staff, superb meals and great overall design. The price was very good and the accommodation was truly top class. Would do this again for a romantic getaway.
