We may have arrived on an off day, but our check-in process was terrible. There was a line the entire length of the lobby after 4 pm (when check out started). The front desk staff were not communicating with the line as to the reason of the delays. It then turned out that many guests with reservations through expedia did not actually have rooms reserved, with no help from the hotel. Luckily our reservation was still valid. The mobile key they send to your mobile phone then did not work for an additional 15 minutes, making the check-in process stressful and over 1.5 hours. The room itself was clean and nice, but the block where the entrance of the hotel was felt pretty unsafe. Unfortunately, don't think we'll be returning.

The room was very well equipped, with a fully functional kitchen and in‑unit laundry facilities, including a washer and dryer. All toiletry supplies were provided; however, I did need to request a refill of the hand soap at the wash basin, and later noticed that the shower body wash was empty. When I asked for more, I was informed that the hand soap and body wash were the same product. The bedding and towels were clean. Because the floors were not carpeted, it appeared they had been treated with a cleaner that left a slightly greasy or sticky film, which made walking barefoot a bit uncomfortable. Overall, it was a pleasant stay in a building that has been thoughtfully and adaptively rehabilitated as a boutique hotel.

This was a terrible experience from start to finish. The bed was broken and sunken in the middle, making it impossible to sleep comfortably. The white comforter had large yellow stains, which was completely unacceptable. I stayed for two days and never received fresh towels. When I asked a housekeeper in the hallway, she told me they were “waiting on laundry” and acted like she was doing me a favor by giving me just two washcloths. I ended up having to wash them myself in the rooms washing machine. The manager offered no help at all. I was told the bed couldn’t be fixed and that no other rooms were available. After two nights on that broken bed, my back hurts. Unfortunately, every hotel in the area was sold out, so I had no other options. This stay was extremely disappointing.

Bed was broken in first room. Told I had to return to the same room after one night at the second room. Hotel needs better maintenance, but is a decent affordable options if room is in full repair.

I’ve stayed here when it was still Sonder. I would like the hotel to provide square footage of the rooms on booking sites. Also in the past Sonder would offer early check depending on the time at 20 or 30 dollars. Hotel Houze charges 50 dollars regardless of time. The earliest they allow check in is 330. 50 is a bit high for early check in. Other than that

They use digital keys so once downloaded to your phone you use your cellphone to open your hotel room door. It worked fine for a couple of days until the internet went out for the whole hotel, which meant nobody could get into their rooms. There was a key code on the rooms as a backup plan to get into your hotel room but I was given 4 key codes to use to open my door and none of them worked. Had to have hotel staff go to my room to let me into my room for two days until they got the wifi working again.

The staff was amazing. The rooms were very nice. The view we had of downtown Detroit on Michigan and Washington was awesome. The only thing I did not like was the early check in fee of $50.00. I never had a hotel charge me for that. They should rethink that. Other than that. This location was close to restaurants, bars, and Huntington Arena. Great work.

The staff was very nice, friendly and tried to help us with the issues we had but sadly I feel this was our first and last time staying here. Our room was not swept so there were cupcake sprinkles and glitter from I’m assuming the last patrons left everywhere. So much so that I had to ask the front desk for a broom so that I could sweep the residue and hair out the room. We were not provided with any wash clothes in our room and when we asked for them we were told that they didn’t have any so the front desk brought us those big towels that you lay on the floor when stepping out the shower to use instead. On top of that, the bed looked as if the linens weren’t changed as there were leftover human hairs, black markings and black lint in the sheets. We laid on top of the covers since it was late and it took awhile for the front desk to deliver our wash cloth requests. The walls in the room had visible black scrapes on them and not just on the base of the wall, literally on high places so it was very noticeable and just added to the unclean appearance. The shower had soap scum and hairs from the last patrons left on the shower walls and the cups provided in the kitchen cabinets were not cleaned well. The location downtown was perfect and close to a lot of shopping/eatery. However, the hotel doesn’t offer parking and the lot across the street we paid $30 nightly to park there and it was very tight and chaotic.

Hotel Houze — Downtown Detroit, Michigan Not Recommended When I first arrived, I was assigned to Room 04, which had not been cleaned. I was moved to another room, but the issues didn’t stop there. The hotel looks more like a motel from the inside, with a metallic appearance on the upper floors. The quality of the sheets was very poor. they appeared yellow and brownish, suggesting the laundry machines are either dirty or using harsh chemicals that discolor the linens. Even worse, the blanket I was given had visible blood stains on it, which was completely unacceptable. I was on the top floor and the ceiling was actively leaking the entire stay. I had to use the dirty blankets to cover a pot catching the water. When I went to iron my blouse for my trade show the next morning, there was residue on the iron that transferred directly onto my clothes. Because the internet and phone lines were both down, I had no way to contact the front desk to request a new iron. I was left with no choice but to spend approximately 30 minutes scrubbing the iron clean with a Brillo pad myself before I could finish getting ready. The internet went out Tuesday midday and was down for the rest of my stay. During that time there were also no working phone lines, and the keypad entry system to the rooms was not functioning properly either. That said, the front desk staff were excellent and very professional. And I do appreciate that Expedia provided a 50% reimbursement after I reported thes issues.
