Incredible experience at Suzukiya Ryokan! Staff is incredible! They speak some English and you can communicate perfectly fine with all of them. They are so incredibly kind and welcoming! The room was very traditional with straw mats, room dividers, very comfortable beds on the floor. Hot spring baths indoors as well as outdoors were absolutely fantastic! They are separated by gender, you wash up before entering a really hot bath and relax like you haven't relaxed in a long time! Then they bring...

We stayed for 4 nights and overall had a great experience. We especially enjoyed the onsen during our stay. The hotel is conveniently located close to the station, making it easy to get around.

Magical setting!!! Amazing staff, wonderful breakfast and super clean! Beds were comfortable and onsens were therapeutic!

Mr. Ban runs a great guesthouse. If you're not vegetarian, get full board. It's a bit hard to find. Directions: Take bus from stop 1A at Nikko Train Station. Get off at stop 13. Walk up hill past Saitoh Dental Clinic. Walk to end of high stone wall on right. Continue past grassy area on right. A 2nd stone wall begins. Take right at first opening and bear right. Gasthof Ami is the big house at the far end.

We had a wonderful three nights at Kinugawa Keisui. The staff were kind, helpful and remarkably patient with us. When we couldn't work out how to turn off the private onsen in our room, which shuts off automatically, someone came to the room to show us. They also stepped in to help us sort out a taxi fare. The room could not have been more beautiful and inviting; the large windows bring the natural setting right into the space. And the breakfast and dinners were excellent. We are so happy we...

Spotless room, great staff!

Beautiful ryokan just steps away from some of the most iconic Nikko destinations. We stayed there for 2 days and were able to walk to everything. The ryokan is spotless, restful, and the dinners and breakfasts were marvelous.

Quaint little hotel with a friendly staff and great on baths!

Buffet dinner with steak and tempura. Good onsen water.

Everything was great. We stayed for one night then relocated to another ryokan in Aizu 50 minutes away for two nights based on other reviews. This ryokan was in a residential area and a short walk of the train station. The other was in a samurai town that required a short ride via taxi. Can take the bus with multiple stops or set up a prearranged ground transport that uses a van.
