"We stayed four nights in February and paid a bit extra for one of the rooms at the front - and did not regret it. The only snag was the room was on the third floor and there is no lift; however, the ever-helpful staff were there to assist with the luggage. The 400 year-old character staircase and extensive gallery made the exertion worthwhile!
The room was beautifully equipped and decorated with a huge bed and comfortable chairs and settee and a window where you could enjoy the ever-changing view. It was wet and cold outside but the room was always cosy and the only problem we had was the mystifying modern heating control on the en-suite radiator!
We ate in the first floor restaurant which enjoyed views across the Dart and had a wide choice for breakfast and evening meals. Here the staff were welcoming, attentive and engaging, as were the house-keepers and reception. In fact it was the staff which made our stay such a pleasure."
"I have been staying in Dartmouth working for the past 8 months and wish I found this place sooner. It is a lovely room with views and the couple are lovely and very welcoming. This place is better than all the hotels that I have stayed in. Would 100% recommend and happily stay in again."
"The place is surface level clean but if you end up having to move furniture e.g because you drop something behind the bedside table, it’s quite dirty. That’s just one example, inside the cleaning cupboard, if you need a broom for example, again, dirty.
The electric meter cost way more than the estimates provided. Please note that we stayed in the cold month of December. We never really got it toasty warm like with central heating.
The electric meter had a momentary blip where it would keep rejecting coins despite using it fine the evening before. We appreciate this isn’t an issue the owners have experienced before but just highlighting it did happen to us.
The shower was weak & took a while to get used to. Again, the owners say they haven’t experienced problems reported before but we’re highlight that, for us, it wasn’t an easy “turn it on & you’re away” like our home shower. It’s temperamental. In trying to get it warm enough.
It’s tired & things like door frames could do with a lick of paint and there’s splatter marks in the main bedroom. Light switches aren’t where you would intuitively reach for them, like in the second bedroom.
And the decor and furniture is poor.
My husband and I can pick things up pretty quickly but we just found the who found the whole thing a faff.
If you’re on a very tight budget and have the time to read & learn everything- it’ll probably be fine. But we’ll never return.
On a plus, the bed was comfy & the kids enjoyed the bunk beds.
