"The first room was smelly. They switched me to another room which was ok. The tv was on HD and the picture kept breaking up. Wben you flushed the loo it kept flushing for 10 minutes. The bed was good and I had a good nights sleep. I could access the food area for breakfast without going outdoors."

"We recently stayed for an overnight at the Smiths Hotel to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary, returning to Gretna Green where we were married 35 years ago. We were allocated one of the newly refurbished rooms at the front of the hotel, which was spotlessly clean and modern. The lounge and bar areas are freshly decorated with plenty of seating, including outdoor seating. We would highly recommend eating at the restaurant as the food was delicious. I enjoyed the Lamb and my husband had the steak, he said it was cooked to perfection. Hats off to the chef and staff as despite a large football function and another larger table at the time we were dining it did not have an impact on the quality of food or the level of service provided by the staff. The staff are a credit to the hotel. The hotel is a few minutes walk from the Blacksmiths shop and visitor centre. The village centre is a short walk away and there is also an outlet village with shops close by. Carlisle is only about a 15min drive away. We would not hesitate to recommend Smiths hotel if you are looking for a hotel in the area."
