Malahat Fairyland Cottage
10/10 Excellent
"We loved staying at this very peaceful “fairy tale” cottage. Rachel was very helpful, so if you’re unsure about anything…ASK. (For example, the laundry is in the main house, not the cottage). The location made it easy to get back to Victoria, the Butchart Gardens and the Malahat Skywalk, but we felt a world away. We wouldn’t recommend for anyone with mobility issues (steep, but paved path to cottage) and the steps to the loft are tall. Don’t bring a ton of luggage, or you’ll be hauling it all down and back up! There’s no oven, but the grill worked great. We had absolutely perfect weather the entire week. We truly enjoyed the quiet and darkness. We saw jellyfish, lots of starfish, oysters and others and low tide and even a couple harbor seals. Rachel said sometimes there are sea lions and orcas. We’d love to come back for that! We feel so lucky for having been able to spend time in this very unique and peaceful setting. Thanks!!Krista & Jim"

"This is an amazing rental property. The view on the decks was awesome. Kitchen was very well stocked. The fish tanks were amazing too as was all the decorations throughout the house. It made it very warm, welcoming and relaxing to stay here. One of our guests really enjoyed the hot tub in the back. Having a bathroom in all 4 master bedrooms was an extra special treat."

Beautiful family 2-bedroom home in Shawnigan Lake!

"The good:Modern house, nicely stocked kitchen. Looked nice and very clean. Owner communicated quickly about a fuse box issue and had someone fix it. The bad: This house is right next door to a sewer treatment plant. It absolutely smells like … a sewer. Like really bad smell outside most of the time. Could not use the patio and it came in through the living room AC. Cannot open the windows which was impossible with a heat wave on without smelling literal poop all night. Could really use a second AC in the master bedroom to avoid this issue. Owner offered me to move the AC into the master bed room when I asked about the sewer smell but it looked complicated to move the AC and all of its parts fell apart when it moved (the big air hose was not in right and had to be reattached). The beds desperately need to be replaced. Completely sagging on both sides of the bed and felt like I was sleeping on a board in both rooms. Went and bought a pillow top thing at Walmart. I wish rental houses took more care to provide good decent mattresses with their rentals. I don’t want to sleep on something so worn in and so sagging to have such bad sleeps."
