Combate Beach

Combate Beach
Discover both sides of a stunning Puerto Rico beach that promises a laid-back party atmosphere at one end and tranquil, tropical seclusion at the other.

Combate Beach is divided into two distinctive, equally beautiful crescents of sand, split in the middle by Punta Aguila. The significant length of the beach and its two-part shape mean that you can always find a spot of sand that suits your needs. Choose between the charming, developed northern beach, which features restaurants, resorts and boats bobbing in the water, or the quieter southern side, which offers uninterrupted views of Bahía Salinas and the Morillos Peninsula.

Join local families relaxing on golden sand and swimming in crystal clear water on the northern side of the beach. Wander out along a pier, where small motorboats bob in the water and swimmers jump off the edge. Colorful resorts and beach huts line the edges of beach, while locals play games or listen to music. Come back at night to enjoy the partying that often happens here.

Follow a dirt trail off the beach past Punta Aguila to head to the southern end of the beach. This is the quieter side of Combate, where you can lie in the shade of palm trees and swim in warm, calm seas protected by the bay. A ruined pier stretching into the water provides a striking landmark.

Combate Beach is well equipped to deal with the visitors who flock here over summer and on weekends. Have lunch or dinner in one of the restaurants on the beach’s edge or bring your own food and drink to enjoy at the picnic tables. The parking area is also an easy place to pick up a snack from the food stands.

The beach is backed by the Cabo Rojo Salt Flats. Follow walking trails past saline lagoons, where tens of thousands of migratory birds flock every winter.

Drive for about 25 minutes from Cabo Rojo town center to reach Combate Beach and use the free parking once here. Come outside summer to avoid crowds, although even then the south side remains a peaceful destination. Like many beaches in Puerto Rico, Combate Beach is free to visit.
