  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The young lady at the desk was GREAT! And the lady at the cafe was Great also very helpful. We had to change rooms because the heat wasn't working but it turned out ok.

The check-in was very easy and quick. Staff was very accommodating. They provided a replacement remote just after check-in. In the morning, my wife accidentally dropped our vehicle's key FOB into a storm water grate in the parking lot. Staff was very helpful offering tools to help us successfully retrieve it.

The front desk woman was very friendly and took care of a booking issue I had. The room was straightened up every day by housekeeping (3night stay), I was not expecting that. The breakfast was well maintained by the woman who ran that. She was very friendly and funny! Found out that the property was under new management and that they will be renovating but overall the facility was well maintained. They were even power washing the heat/ac units the day we were leaving.

I was told that I didn’t book 2 Rooms even though I presented a Travelocity receipt and itinerary. I was told that the 2 rooms on my receipt meant I would get 2 beds in 1 room and not 2 rooms. It was ridiculous and I was forced to purchase another room on the spot. The attendant on staff the next morning agreed that I had indeed booked 2 rooms and encouraged me to contact Travelocity to see what could be worked out.

However when I got to the hotel, they stated they only had one room reserved for us, and had no more rooms available. We made it work but I’ve not had this occur before, and would like to feel confident it won’t happen again. Also; the bathtub was badly stained.

Common areas haven’t been properly maintained, carpets looked as if they hadn’t been vacuumed in ages. First room had 4 roaches go scurrying when the lights were turned on. Went to the front and got another room that had a broken lock. Ended up cancelling the stay and finding a different hotel all together.

The hotel is in a bad location. Didn’t feel safe at all. Outside looked awful. Inside was even worse. Has a bad smell of mold. Got to the room and the under the window was full of black mold. Got another room and the smell was still there but no visible mold. Immediately found another hotel and got out of there
