Not a good experience! On Saturday, June 8, 2025 we arrive from Michigan to this VRBO. It is a basement apartment with three bedrooms, a kitchen/laundry area with one bathroom. Nice enough. There is no real kitchen, just a room with a sink, refrigerator, and a hot plate. In the bathroom above the toilet, there is a sign that reads do not flush toilet paper. My husband asked if that was a joke and I told him I didn’t think it was. When I questioned the owner, I was told, and I quote, it is a sign written on almost every major building. Who in the right mind would want to stay there solely on that? However, we dropped off our luggage and go into Chicago. We returned around 9:30 PM and as we are going down the stairs, we could hear water running loudly. The whole kitchen area is flooded, running into the only bathroom. I messaged the owner through the VRBO app but didn’t hear from him. So we ran upstairs and rang the doorbell for the house. The owner answered through a ring doorbell system, and could not understand that we were telling him that the basement was flooding so that took a few few moments to communicate with him. He told us it would be at least an hour before he could get there, but did tell us where the shut off was. If we hadn’t come home that night to stop the flooding his entire basement would have flooded, ruining the drywall. We waited an hour and nobody showed up so we went to a hotel. We are currently disputing the credit card charge.
