The Calf Pens - pet friendly, near Andoversford

You are greeted at The Old Calf Pens by the friendly residents, sheep, donkeys and chickens! Set on a working family run farm it’s like stepping into a new way of life where nothing but farmland surrounds you for miles around. The farm has its own pop-up shop every Saturday so you can buy homegrown and handmade produce for your stay. Amongst these secluded Cotswold valleys you can choose to immerse yourself in the rural peacefulness, or head into the bustle of the surrounding Cotswold towns and villages.

Staying at The Old Calf Pens will suit a couple, friends, or a small family. Whether you are cooking, watching a film, or playing games while the fire roars you can spend time together. The spacious open plan living area is flooded with light from the striking floor to ceiling windows that overlook the diverse garden. Overhead are exposed wooden beams and you will notice the split levels where the barn was built into the shape of the land. Something interesting will take your eye at every turn with hidden surprises like the statement lilac sink in the twin bedroom. The main sitting area gathers around the wood burning stove and there is a kitchen/diner and TV area. There is a bedroom at each end of the barn giving guests extra privacy and a family shower room.

The cottage garden suits all seasons. Surrounding you with colour in spring and summer with grape vines twining around the walls and lavender filling the air with its scent. In winter you can bundle up with blankets under the tin roof listening to the rain before warming in front of the fire. Beyond the barn is open countryside, with the Gloucestershire Way long-distance walking route waiting to showcase this location.

Ground Floor

Open Plan Kitchen/Dining/Sitting:
Bringing the outdoors in through the floor to ceiling windows this room is spacious and airy. The high ceilings showcase the exposed beams, and the stone flooring is warm underfoot. Split into three levels there is space for everybody. The kitchen/diner has freestanding units full of character and a dining table to serve your meals made using produce from the farm.

The first sitting area is perfect for an evening drink or curling up with a good book. The sofa and chair sit before the woodburning stove which is set into a masonry surround. It holds the heat incredibly well and will be a comforting addition in the colder months.

The lower seating area has a smart TV so you won't miss out on your favourite programmes while you're staying here.

Bedroom One:
Exposed stones act as a reminder of the history of this building in this fresh, country styled room. A king-size bed is accompanied by miss-matched wooden furniture and a neutral colour scheme.

Bedroom Two:
This vintage chic twin room has the additional quirky benefit of a lilac sink. With a glass top bedside table and antique wardrobe this room is full of character. From the window you can look out to the cottage garden and watch the buzz of wildlife.

Shower Room:
Next door to the twin room is the family shower room. With a spacious shower, sink and WC you have everything you need.

Outside

This delightful spot lets you soak in the atmosphere of farm life. With a wooden table and chairs set under the old tin roof you are surrounded by planted flower beds and old farmyard equipment becomes works of art. The dining set seats four and there is also a bistro set for two. You are wonderfully secluded and get a lovely view of the passing birds and local bees. The Gloucestershire Way runs through the farm giving you access to miles of walking routes, perfect for taking the dog out for a tiring hike.

We spent 4 nights at The Calf Pens and enjoyed it immensely. We loved the location and its cozy feel. The owners were extremely welcoming and assisted us during our stay and the animals and farm shop were a bonus. The welcome pack was very much appreciated. It is ideally located for getting out and about or. walking in the local area along the Gloucestershire Way. We would happily return.

We had a wonderful family weekend get-together at The Old Calf Pens. Clive and Lydia are very friendly welcoming hosts and were helpful with suggestions on what to see and do locally. The accommodation was ideal for our needs with a new baby on board and was very clean and comfortable. The setting was just so idyllic on a peaceful working farm in a picturesque location yet within easy reach of all the Cotswolds hotspots.Best of all was being able to walk straight from the door. We can definitely recommend a stay at The Old Calf Pens!

We had such a wonderful stay on the farm. Lydia and Clive were so welcoming and helpful, the property was beautifully done and extremely comfortable. The setting was a idyllic and peaceful. Two weeks later we are still telling people about it. My highlight was being able to buy things from the farm shop - all of which had been grown on the farm (n.b. it's only open at certain times). We are very much looking forward to our next visit to the Calf Pens.

A wonderful place to stay in the beautiful Cotswolds countryside. The house was a fantastic size for our family, has a beautiful country feel and is equipped with everything you need (the fireplace is a very cool bonus). Plus it’s on a working farm - the kids absolutely loved helping out with the lambs and chickens and donkeys, and we loved the food from the farm shop. Thank you Lydia and Clive for such an engaging experience.
