No matter where you’re coming from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you prepare well enough. We’ve made a list of handy tips and tricks that will help get your Margaret River escape started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Firstly, and most importantly, pack in your passport, travel docs, bank cards and daily medications. Next, you’ll need some extra in-flight entertainment to while away the hours. A thrilling novel and a phone filled with your favorite movies are always good options. If you intend to take a quick snooze, a quality neck pillow and some earplugs will also be useful. Finally, leave some space for a toothbrush and some facial wipes to ensure you arrive at your destination feeling fresh and raring to go.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Squeeze all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) won’t be allowed on. Sharp or pointed objects, like your treasured Swiss Army knife, and dangerous products which are explosive or flammable, such as flares, chemicals agents and fireworks, are also not allowed.
What to wear on a flight:
- The goal here is to be as comfortable as possible. Layer up in natural-fiber clothing and take a sweater in case it gets cold in the cabin. Always go with flat, well-fitting shoes as it’s possible that your feet and ankles will swell during the flight. Leave the stilettos and chunky boots in your luggage.
- Unfortunately, one risk of long-distance travel is developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged inactivity. To prevent this, take every opportunity to stretch your legs and walk around the cabin. Compression tights and socks are also a great idea to help lower your risk.
