The downtown property listed in Carmel by the sea is the property we booked several months in advance of our trip. 5 days before our arrival, I received an email from the property owner advising she had to cancel our booking due to an "emergency maintenance" issue and provided a link to another property. I opened the link and the property was for a 1 bedroom/1 bath which did not work for us as my husband and I were traveling with another couple. I requested she call me immediately as she did not provide me a phone number to contact her. She did call within 10 minutes and I asked why the property we reserved was not available and she simply stated "a maintenance issue". I pressed asking why a maintenance issue couldn't be fixed by Saturday and she said
"no it's not available for the rest of the month". Long story short, she provided us a property that was a larger home 2 bed/2bath however it was not for the full length of our stay therefore we would have to get a hotel the first and last night there. Also this property was not in town so we would not have the capability to walk every where which is why we chose this location to begin with. Bottom line; very inconvenient having to find a hotel days before our arrival and then have to move locations a total of 3 x as well as having to drive and/or Uber everywhere. Naturally there were no other options available in this short time frame, flights and other excursions already booked we were stuck! To top everything off the owner didn't even apologize, explain the situation with empathy or even acknowledge the inconvenience she was putting us in. I had to ask if she would give us a refund for two of the days we had to book a hotel for. Upon arrival to the property, there was no welcome gift or even a phone call to see if we had questions or if everything was good. The property itself was very nice, beautiful views (when the fog cleared) that is the only nice thing I can say. The furniture throughout the whole home was uncomfortable which made it hard to just sit/lay and relax with a glass of wine. The location was very inconvenient, you can't walk to anything. The most disappointing was the customer service. Unfortunately it put a damper on our overall excitement experiencing Carmel for the first time. I'm not one to ever complain or write a bad review this but this was just beyond bad!
