Wish we had stayed elsewhere
1 / 5 Terrible
Our stay wasn’t terrible but in the future I would choose a different property. On the good side, the property was very clean and the host was very responsive. Good proximity to Duke U and town. The unit has baseboard heating so each room has its own thermostat.
On the downside, our unit got double booked. We booked on VRBO and another group booked on air-bnb. We were sitting in the living area talking Friday nite about 10 and some other people were trying to get in. They had a code for the door that wasn’t the same as ours but that worked. It was disconcerting. The host blamed a software glitch on VRBO. We called VRBO and they said our stay data was correct and they would investigate. We don’t have the results of that investigation but needless to say the whole episode was disconcerting and under different circumstances could have ended very badly.
The property itself is located in a kind of sketchy area that isn’t really very walkable. The kitchen is very poorly stocked in terms of pans and utensils. No frying pan. No spatula suitable for eggs. (We like to eat breakfast in when we stay at rental units.). It has a Keurig so we bought pods—but guess what. The Keurig doesn’t work.—a waste of pods;). Linen-wise, the kitchen has grand total of one kitchen towel. That’s it. And two skimpy little hot pads. Furniture is serviceable but I wouldn’t call it comfortable. Bedroom shades don’t block light very well and there are lights outside that are pretty distracting if you want to sleep. The unit is on the bottom in a four plex and the noise from the unit above travels. The folks upstairs weren’t noisy by any stretch but you could hear footsteps, noise from the shower was particularly annoying, you could hear their TV, phone calls, and even the phone vibrating.
Despite all this, we enjoyed Durham. But I would find another place to stay in the future.
