Two Bedroom Oceanfront Beach House
Most of the Outer Banks keeps its guests well connected to all the perceived luxuries of modern life.... Walmart, Target, fast food drive thrus, etc. But an hour's drive south from Nags Head, along a serene strip of sand nestled between the Pamlico Sound and the Atlantic Ocean will deliver you to the apex of the Outer Banks, to Cape Hatteras. Think... old Cape Cod fifty plus years ago. We harbor the last real beaches, expansive and uncrowded, without corporate influence. About a mile away is the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, the tallest lighthouse in America. She has been protecting mariners traversing the rough waters beyond our shores for over a hundred years. Most locals are descendants of those who were on English ships seeking to discover new lands that fell victim to the treacherous seas and shipwrecked before the lighthouse was built. Once you arrive here, you'll discover why they never left. Prepare yourself to meet a few.
The iconic oceanfront Outer Banks Motel, on Cape Hatteras, a.k.a. 'Buxton', was built right on family land by one of those locals almost 70 years ago. And continues to be owned and operated by that very local and her family. The OBM continues its tradition of old sea village hospitality but with modern upgrades and advancements to make our guests feel at home here. Having a planned out itinerary is not a necessity... just grab your beach towel, flip flops and a book and walk a few feet to the beach. Close your eyes and ponder the smell of salty air, sun and sea mist grazing your face, the gentle sound of the waves breaking on the beach, while digging your toes in the warm sand while watching the sun rise and set over the water. All that stress just melts away.
Every one of the OBMs' cottages and efficiency rooms are unique. Some are directly on the beach, some have excellent views. All are just feet from the beach. We have a saltwater pool and hot tub located between the main office and the beach. There's a coin operated washer and dryer and ice machine in the back of the main office building located near the fish cleaning station. We provide you with everything you need, and nothing you don't. The local grocery store, many restaurants, surf shops and tackle shops are not further than a mile away. We have five oceanfront beach houses beach houses available on VRBO. Each have two bedrooms with a queen bed and a twin bed in each bedroom. The open concept main living area has a full kitchen equipped with all the pots, pans, utensils, and dishes you'll need. Each has a large dining table able to accommodate six guests. And the living area has a large sofa, lounge chair and a smart T.V. Specifically, #107 and #108 are further out on the beach and have a large open deck. #10 and #11 have covered decks, and #110 has an open deck, and has an optional double queen room with a full bathroom that, if available, can turn your two bedroom beach house into a three bedroom, two bathroom beach house. There is an upcharge, but it's significantly less than if you rented each separately. Parking for one vehicle is provided, with an overflow lot located on the property.

We were in the ocean! Surf was washing up underneath the house next to us with people in it with several feet of water under it at high tide. At hi Tide we had surf washing under the front porch of our house. Had an enjoyable stay but would love to have VRBO or Outer Banks hotel of the conditions before we arrived! I stayed up till near midnight to watch the surf wife went to bed and it was a little bit crazy! Sorry that you probably will lose your properties but the notification would’ve been very nice to have gotten before we went down there! Probably will never stay there againOr use VRBO as they did not notify us also!
We loved hearing the waves crashing and enjoyed coffee with sea spray and amazing views of the sunrise! Being directly on the beach was awesome! The cottage was very clean and just right for our short stay! The only downside- the beach directly in front is no longer there and is now sandbags to protect the property due to storms. But still a great spot!
What an amazing place to stay! The house is located right on the beach and part of a hotel property. They were still cleaning up from the hurricane storm but we could hardly tell. They went the extra mile to make sure we were taken care of

Liked: Cleanliness, location
Disliked: Communication, listing accuracy
I booked a house on stilts on the beach. When I arrived, I was told that house had been damaged by a recent hurricane and I had been rebooked. I absolutely understand that hurricanes happen and my disappointment about this is minor compared with hurricane devastation. However, I was upset that nobody communicated this with me ahead of time and I was rebooked into a room with minimal to no ocean view- which was the whole point of booking this property. The woman at the counter was very kind; I was refunded the difference and she tried to get me into a room with a good of a view as possible but it wasn’t the same. The unit was very clean but outdated. Also, the booking says check-in at 5 but the office closes at 5.
Completely Misrepresented – No Beach Access & Poor Conditions on the Inside. We were incredibly disappointed with this property. The listing shows people enjoying a walkable beach and sitting beachside — but when we arrived, the cottage was literally perched over massive sandbags with waves crashing beneath it. There was no beach access and no ability to walk or sit near the water.Inside, the home smelled strongly of smoke and mold, and the furnishings were heavily used. Nothing like the photos and the front desk person confirmed that the pictures haven't been updated in quite some time. We reached out to the host but he had no other properties that were oceanfront and would not make any price concessions on this property. He agreed to cancel our reservation but refused to refund us any money. We ended up leaving and filing a complaint with VRBO for a misrepresentated property. This property was completely misrepresented and should not be advertised in its current condition. I did include pictures as proof so hopefully Vrbo includes them with my review. Be warned — this is not the oceanfront vacation you're expecting!
