Stay in the Shetlands.

This Hotel offered excellent service, the room was perfect and we enjoyed our stay. We ate in the dining room for breakfast and dinner and both meals were of a high standard. We would definitely recommend to others to stay here if they came to the Shetlands and we would stay here again.

Best in Town

Third visit but first with Hotels.com. Always a welcoming reception - nice ambiance and a historic building to boot. A bit out of the way, so a car is required if staying for any length of time. Great food & superb breakfast to order.

We spent two nights here and loved it. The friendliness of the staff combined with the professionalism of the chef made it a start to remember. Dog owners: although dogs are not welcome in the general areas, the hotel grounds are great and lead straight to the shingle beach. Plenty for the muppet to sniff and lots of rabbits to chase.

We had a lovely 4 night stay at Busta House in October 2025. The building has plenty of historic character and it was nice and warm, even as autumn temperatures began to hit. The bed was very large and comfortable. The food was excellent with plenty of choice and was always served piping hot. The staff were great, friendly and always willing to help, especially Alan and the owner, Grant. There is free parking on site. The two bonuses to our stay were seeing the northern lights and what must be one of the largest whisky collections on the Island (over 200 bottles to sample!). I learned a lot about whisky over the course of our stay.

We had a lovely big room Yell overlooking the garden. The hotel was peaceful and quiet even though there were some big groups staying. Always plenty of hot water and heating which was needed after being in the cold winds at Shetland. Staff very helpful and polite - they helped us book ferries to Yell and Unst. Breakfast and dinner very plentiful - too much for me at times but you can ask for a half portion. Lovely lounge to relax in on an evening. Highly recommend and we hope to be back at spring time in a couple of years

A real treat.

Great hotel. The staff, in particular- Andrew, Bradley and Stephanie- were excellent. Both our Breakfasts and the evening meal we had were good quality. The Whisky selection was amazing. They are refurbishing parts of the hotel, but it did not have an impact on our stay. Our room’ Muckle Roe’ could accommodate four people. What would have enhanced our stay would have been if the second bed could have been moved to one side and two comfy chairs placed by the window to really appreciate the view from the room.

Perhaps living on past glories

The hotel didn’t meet our expectations that were formed by their website. Our room looked like it had been recently refurbished and certainly the bathroom had been, however the decoration looked very amateurish- I can paint a door better than the bathroom one. I thought the food offering would be more high end with an emphasis on Shetland seafood but it was fairly standard, nothing particularly stood out. For example one choice was lasagna and it was made with Aberdeen Angus beef and Orkney cheese to give it that locally produced feel. Dundee marmalade is world famous but their choice of Tiptree from Essex and portions of Lakeland butter shows they are not walking the talk. Another area for improvement would be to vacuum more thoroughly, especially the stairs leading to the bedrooms. We still enjoyed our stay and the staff are very welcoming.

★★★★★ Busta House was one of the absolute highlights of our time in Shetland. We stayed in the Noss Room, and from the moment we arrived, it felt like we had landed somewhere genuinely special. The house itself is beautiful—historic, full of character and atmosphere, and exactly the sort of place you hope to find when travelling somewhere like Shetland. It doesn’t feel manufactured or overly polished; it feels authentic, warm and wonderfully connected to the place and its history. The grounds are beautiful as well. We loved having the freedom to simply step outside and wander, stroll around the property and explore. There is something pretty wonderful about being able to start or end your day with a walk around the grounds, taking in the landscape and the quiet of Shetland without having to go anywhere at all. And the location was absolutely perfect for us. We wanted to experience every aspect of Shetland, rather than stay in one area, and Busta House gave us an ideal base from which to do exactly that. We explored coastlines, beaches and cliffs, went searching for wildlife, travelled through tiny communities and headed as far north as Yell and Unst. We covered an extraordinary amount of Shetland during our stay, and Busta always felt perfectly positioned in the middle of our adventures. After long days of windswept coastlines, wildlife, tiny roads and Shetland adventures, coming back to Busta felt like coming home. We loved settling in, having a drink, talking about eve
