The cottage is very well situated in the old part of Appledore in a quiet street with excellent views of the estuary from the cosy upstairs sitting room. A very pleasant place for a winter holiday.
This is such a lovely little house to stay, very relaxing. It has everything you could possibly need while you are staying and everything is either right on your doorstep or within a short walking distance. Generally everyone around is very friendly and happy to offer advice on places to go and things to see.
We had a lovely stay at Curlew cottage. Appledore was a great spot and we loved the walks and local pubs, shops and nature. The house was as described and we had a very comfortable stay. The view from the garden, over the estuary was special and we loved spending time out there.in all weathers. Communication with Stephanie was easy and we had everything we needed.Thank you!
Beautiful location in Appledore. View over the estuary to the Atlantic ever changing and soothing as the tides ebbed and flowed. Second time to this magical little town..and will be coming again for sure.
Property on seaward side of Irsha Street and like all the others that side of the street it gave straight onto the estuary with dramatic views every day, and wonderful sunsets.
We loved the location as it was only a short walk to the centre. The restaurants were excellent. The cottage was in a superb location but was dated and needed updating but this could be keeping with the fact it is an old cottage.Could do with more tea bags and coffee. The complimentary bottle of wine was a lovely touch.Overall lovely holiday.
A charming cottage with a superb view of the estuary. We enjoyed sitting in the garden watching the boats go back and forth. The cottage had everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable.
Perfect property to enjoy the views from lots of different rooms, with easy walk into the high street aswell for a dip in the sea and fab walks. The property has lovely bedrooms, well equipped kitchen, warm shower and even a loo with a view. Fab stay for the family.
Had a wonderful time in Appledore at this cottage. It was well fitted out with all we needed .Beds very comfy .Lovely view fro lounge on top floor across the estuary and cottage well placed for village
The best thing about the property is the view from the lounge and the garden overlooking the shoreline. We spent most of our time there.
The cottage is very traditionally furnished and comfortable. There are two brilliant pubs within five minutes walk serving excellent food. Appledore itself is a delightful, large village with plenty of amenities. Highly recommend
we had a fantastic stay at curlew cottage whilst on the SouthWest Coast Park walk. parking was easy, managed to park very close to cottage. Enjoyed having a coffee in garden overlooking the river estuary after a days waking. the cottage was very clean and spacious.
Thank you
Enjoyed our short getaway to Curlew Cottage in Appledore. The cottage is lovely and characterful, with everything you need. The rooms are clean and beds comfortable. The views - even in overcast February - are fantastic and the location couldn't be bettered. Just a short walk to the quay and shops. As other reviews mention, the stairs are quite steep so just something to consider for young children and the elderly.
Communication with Stephanie was quick, friendly and helpful.
Would definitely recommend.
Appledore is a beautiful village. Other Reviews were accurate. Lovely clean, comfy property. Only downside was the toilet downstairs. The stairs are really creeky, especially in the middle of the night. The property has a wash room outside. Which was perfect for drying wet towels and wetsuits. Having breakfast with an amazing view was perfect. Would recommend
We had a nice week in Appledore, the view out of the upstairs lounge window and courtyard garden downstairs are definitely what sells this property as a relaxing holiday destination.
The stairs are definitely steep with only one handrail, which for elderly or anyone with mobility problems is a real problem. The beds had no extra blankets and at nights it was cold and the quilts aren't that thick, so take extra blankets if you feel the cold.
Overall a good week away, except for tired in general - furnishings and equipment. On the plus side communication with the owner was very responsive.
This cottage is lovely, set over two floors, with fantastic views over the estuary.
The downstairs has a lounge area when you first come in the door, with a fold up bed if you have a sixth person (child) in your group. The stairs and a short hallway are next, with a twin bedroom and then the kitchen. There is also a table and chairs in the kitchen which we used for our meals, although there is also another dining table and chairs in the front lounge.
The kitchen window looks out to the back garden and estuary.
There is another door from the kitchen to the bathroom and toilet. The shower is fantastic. Quite a large walk in shower.
The kitchen also has the back door that leads to a lovely little garden with lots of flowering shrubs and daisy type plants. There is a little wrought iron table and chairs, where you can sit and enjoy the view, which we did regularly.
From the garden, you could also access a utility type room that also had a second toilet.
Upstairs there is another lounge with fabulous views over the Estuary. We rarely used it as we sat outside, but this would be brilliant in cold weather to still see the sea.
There was also a large double bedroom and a small single room upstairs.
The only downside to this cottage is the lack of a toilet upstairs. It's a long way to the loo in the night and the stairs do creak!
Too be honest, I would probably put the twin room upstairs, and have the double room downstairs, so you don't need to go up once the kids are in bed.
The car park is a short walk away, and you can park outside the cottage to load and unload everything.
It is also a short walk to two pubs. You can also get down on to a rocky beach area here to go rock pooling when the tide is out, which we did with the kids. It is just a little further to the main Quay, which is where you find a few shops. We also spent some time crabbing along here when the tide was in, as did many other families.
You are also a short drive from Westward Ho! And a lovely sandy beach.
The whole process to rent the cottage was simple. I had a question, that was answered really quickly. I was also sent a message detailing everything I needed to know. The cottage also had information and instruction manuals if needed.
Whilst there, I had a question for the owner and I received a response immediately.
Overall this was a fantastic place and we had a wonderful holiday. We would stay here again.
The property is beautiful it was lovely to sit in the back or the lounge & watch the river come in & out with the sea tide.
Appledore is a lovely place to stay.
Lovely cottage with nice courtyard overlooking the estuary. It’s a couple of minutes walk to the shoreline and the same the other way to 2 brilliant pubs. The village is about a 10 minute walk, where there are a couple of other pubs, a couple of restaurants and a few takeaways. Communication with owner was very good and easy check-in. Westward Ho was a little too far for us to walk to with the dog (weather was very hot) but it was only a short easy drive.
What a fabulous cottage in a beautiful location, the best compliment I can give curlew cottage is that it felt totally like home from home
Thanks to Stephanie for her assurance during this difficult time and I’ll certainly be happy to return to the cottage again in the future
Stay in an old cottage in Irsha Street on the estuary. Very clever to have the lounge upstairs, room with a view! Cottage is well equipped. The patio more sunny than I expected as far away enough from the house and the river /sea views are stunning, always changing. Lovely area if you like nature and going for walks. I would not get the cottage with young children because of the stairs and seawall, but ideal for older children and adults. We slept downstairs, dark and quiet room, as toilet is downstairs no need to get up and down the steep stairs at night which makes the house suitable for older people as well.
