You will fall in love with this beautiful 1,400 sq. ft. five-room stone house, located directly on the leeward side of a gorgeous, secluded beach. Our two bedroom home is positioned among many palm trees, just steps from one of the prettiest pristine beaches you will ever see. The beach gradually extends -- coral free -- into the blue water. Further offshore are reefs that are perfect for fishing, scuba diving or snorkeling. This home sleeps four, and has two bedrooms with king size beds and one bath. Linens and towels are provided. The fully equipped kitchen has a microwave, blender, toaster, coffee maker and washing machine. The living room has a fireplace, radio, CD, TV/VCR and a large selection of movies. The 42 x 17 foot patio has a gas BBQ and lounge chairs and is perfect for sunbathing. Included with the house are 2 kayaks, perfect to take into our creek for bone fishing, sea turtle watching and snorkeling.

One of the things which Cat Island is known for is its bone fishing. Don't miss it!

Our 2006 Ford Escape is available for rent to explore the island's blue hole, sea glass exploring and historic structures.

We have a large cabana located on the beach for those times when you want to escape the sun. A perfect spot for watching the children or watching the setting sun. You can also enjoy a large enclosed outdoor shower. This is an ideal holiday destination for couples or families.

Paradise on Cat Island

Kim, the owner, helped ensure that our stay was delightful. This was our fourth trip to this wonderful house just steps away from a pristine beach, and we certainly plan on returning yet again.

Incredible! A taste of real island living.

We loved it! My best friend and I went for the week. And can't wait to go back. The beauty of the island and the friendly locals can't be beat. This is a hidden gem with alot of heart, soul and history. We are very thankful for this place of paradise created by Kim and her family. Till next time...

Living in Paradise!

Our trip to Shangri-La exceeded our expectations. From the warm welcome and information from our host Kim, to the quaint perfectly appointed house, and spectacular beach and amazing location right on Bennett’s Harbour , we felt as if we had just landed in paradise! If you like a remote quiet locations where the locals embrace you every step of the way, while swimming in the most pristine waters—this is the rental for you. We feel honored that host Kim shared her family home with us and allowed us to experience the true Cat Island. We can’t wait to book our next trip to Shangri-La.

A home away from home

This has been one of the best experience I have had. I enjoyed the fact that they were well prepared and the host met me at the airport. Down to flash lights on the side of the bed just incase current went off. The rooms were really nice and cozy which made it great for sleeping and working from home.

This place is absolutely incredible! I'm is so helpful and nice. Cleo, or caretaker went above and beyond. The beach is so secluded and breath taking. I can not recommend this place enough!!

Awesome location!

The beach was amazing, as it usually is on Cat Island. The location was close to Arthur's Town, which was nice for evening dinners. Of course there are always the bugs, but that's just part of a nice warm climate. I may have lost a pint of blood but it was worth it! The house is great too.

Paradise!

We have been visiting this property for almost 30 years and it remains one of our favorite places on earth. The Henn family recently added numerous upgrades to the house and property, including a wonderful outdoor shower. This is truly a special place which we highly recommend.

Amazing place - we want to go back!

The location was perfect for us. We flew into Arthur Town, then a short ride to the house. The property is not isolated but the foliage on three sides gives a wonderful sense of privacy. The fourth side is the beach. What a beach! White sand, gentle waves, palm trees... We saw a few people a day on the beach. On the weekend, yachts anchored just offshore. Everyone was friendly, locals and other tourists. The house is quirky but very comfortable, well furnished. The kitchen setup was fine, everything we needed and more. We loved the patio on the beach side. My partner did yoga there daily. Outdoor shower was great. Breezes kept the place cool with lots of ventilation. We didn't need fans the whole time. Fortunately, bugs were not a problem except we did give up on eating dinner on the patio. No bugs at the beach. Alligator Creek a short paddle away had lots of turtles, some small sharks, barracuda and bonefish that eluded me for the whole time. Lots of other small fish. We kayaked there almost every day. Obtaining fish was a disappointment. I wasn't catching them and the usual vendors were not going out because of windy conditions. A couple restaurants did have good fish. We mostly ate in. Groceries are limited. The Orange Creek store was nearby. The New Bight store had more variety. Danny King had limited stock but the best bananas we have ever had. Highlights were trips to Alvernia and the church on the hill, a hike to Man O War beach, and just sitting in the cabana in the evening and watching the sun set. Kim was great about informing us about what to do and where to go. Trevor, her onsite guy, was also good. We are back in the Corona storm and missing Cat Island life!

Most relaxing vacation in a long time

We loved our one week stay at the Shangri-la! We had come to Cat Island a few years back and explored the whole island, and had decided that Wilson bay was the most beautiful place. So this time we just stayed at the house, the beach and bay and as far as the kayaks took us, which made for a very relaxing vacation. The house was very comfortable, clean and with a great view from the main rooms. The new King-sized mattress made a big difference for us. The beach is gorgeous, even though there were a few other people that walked by every day. Altogether we saw around eight people along the beach during the one week - everyone was very friendly. The house itself is well-shielded and you can't see any other buildings from it, which is wonderful. Just palms and the beach! Kim was great in responding to our questions and helping us when our plane to Cat Island left before schedule so that we missed the flight - the small Bahamas airlines can be tricky. But once getting to the house, everything was great. We very much hope we can be back next year! We have been to a number of rental houses on different Caribbean islands over the last decade but this house and this bay stand out in having everything we love about a beach vacation. Thank you, Kim, for sharing it.

Fantastic Home On A Beautiful Beach!

I really don't know where to start describing this wonderful vacation home on the beach with palm trees swaying in the wind. My husband and I had a really great 8 day vacation here! The owner, Kim, was very helpful and answered all my questions before and after I made the reservation. Her parents built this house with so much love and attention to detail! We loved everything about the house, cabana, and beach. It has two roomy bedrooms with king size beds, a fully equipped kitchen, all the pots, pans, and dishes you will need for your stay here. We kayaked in Bennet's Harbor and beyond using the two kayaks provided. That was a lot of fun! Also rented the car available at the house and drove from one end of Cat Island to the other experiencing the island life, meeting wonderful Bahamians, eating great food, and most important to us, having a totally relaxing, much needed vacation! The view from the back deck at sunset is AMAZING! Every night another gorgeous one! First time ever to visit Cat Island and stay at Shangri-La and we will be back as soon as we can! Thanks again Kim for letting us stay at your home.

Beautiful Location

A very nice house with character & charm on a large, private beachfront lot. Comfortable accommodations, gorgeous beach, lovely landscaping. Would have rated it a 5 but the house is showing signs of age, a bit more maintenance is needed, but 5 star potential is there. Overall still nice and definitely recommended.

One of a kind home on a private beautiful beach.

Me and my wife had a great relaxing week on Cat island.Shangri-la lived up to its great reviews.The stone house and the beach were stunning.Most relaxing vacation ever we spent most of our time on the beach or deck.The weather was perfect.Only downside was lack of grocery stores and restaurants on the island.We will be back hopefully next year. Excellant property, well maintained, all amenities for a relaxing stay.

Peaceful paradise

Spent a week at the Shangri-La with my husband and two young sons.we enjoyed the beach, kayaking up alligator creek, fishing, snorkeling, and swimming. The house is well equiped with everything we needed. Not much privacy because the walls only go up so far between rooms, but we made due & did fine.Ourboys had a blast just playing on the beach and swimming most days. The cabana down by the water was perfect. We had a few fires in the pit at night, which was wonderful. Quite a few businesses were closed during the week, and it was a challenge finding places to eat out. We ended up cooking for ourselves most of the time. All in all a great week! Can’t ever go wrong with the sun, sand and Caribbean!

Beautiful location on a peaceful beach

We very much enjoyed our stay at Shangri-la. The location really can't be beat! To be able to walk out the door with no shoes and straight onto one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen is a real treat. The view from the house is magnificent, with the palms blowing in the breeze, beautiful sunsets and moonrises over the ocean. We were able to cook some good meals in the well-stocked kitchen, and enjoyed the rustic, cute design of the stone cottage. Our favorite thing was getting in the kayaks and paddling down the nearby creek, with turtles and rays scooting around under our boats. Magical! We would love to return to this peaceful haven.

Best vacation ever!

I'll make this short and sweet. The house is awesome and has everything you could want for a relaxing self-sufficient vacation. Definitely rent the car. Travel is easy and it gives you so much freedom. The island itself is great. The people are even better. The friendliest place we've ever been. There is plenty to do if you want, or do nothing at all. Groceries are easy to get and plentiful. There are a few close restaurants and Yardie's (highly recommended) is an easy walk. Bring lots of bug spray and tanning lotion. It's not a bad idea to pack some frozen meat in a thermal tote with some ice packs. It was so nice to cook on the grill and enjoy a nice meal on the patio. We hesitated to give such high marks to this place because we want to keep it all to ourselves! We will definitely be back!
