Bad Saarow was originally a small town consisting of a few villages and 225 people. However, the city grew over time as wealthy residents from Berlin moved to the area when they discovered the mud baths and beauty of the natural landscape. A number of country homes and villas were built, and the city soon became a popular spot for holiday trips from Berlin.
While you are in Bad Saarow, try the city’s main attraction: the baths. For specialized saltwater hot spring treatments, stay at SaarowTherme, a popular spa resort. Relax in the Scandinavian, Alpine and Oriental saunas and treat yourself to some of the 60-plus spa treatments, which include mud baths and massages.
For a taste of the outdoors, tour the Spa Gardens, where manicured lawns and trees, combined with a number of lakes and flowers, offer a healing experience. Stroll through the garden and rest in the pavilions or on the benches and balconies that overlook the Scharmützelsee Lake, the largest lake in Brandenburg.
For a bit more excitement, try some of the watersports offered in the city. They include swimming, diving, fishing, surfing and rowing. Play a round of golf or tennis around the lake, or hike and cycle through the picturesque countryside.
The Arbora Climbing Forest is another outdoor region in the area, offering a number of physical challenges. A favorite activity is zip lining, but the area can be hiked as well. The forest has a number of children’s activities and is also available for group events.
Bad Saarow is located around an hour from Berlin, which allows for a number of short excursions. The state capital, Potsdam, the historic center of the country’s film industry, is located a short distance west of Bad Saarow. The Schlaubetal Valley, a favorite for outdoors activities, is located east of the city and offers cycling and hiking trails. Visit the town of Neuzelle, which is located further east and is known for its monastery and brewery. Explore the Spreewald forest, a geological and biological reserve recognized by UNESCO, which is also located in the area.
