About this property
Stylish villa, pool, sea view, wifi, aircon, quiet spot, private, Costa del Sol
'Our family loved this fantastic villa in a magical spot. Mum and Dad came out first for week on their own and really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Then we arrived with our two children for the second week and the kids were in the pool all day and loving it.
We couldn´t fault the villa, it had absolutely everything we needed and was stylish and comfortable, a home from home. We enjoyed sitting on the terrace in the evenings, having just finished dinner, watching the sunset and looking out at the amazing views down to the sea. We also loved the pool deck which was large and like the villa immaculately clean. We remember the lovely Andalucian details built into the villa, like decorated tiles and ceilings with high beams.
It was also a good base for travelling around. We went to Nerja and Torrox beaches locally and we did day trips to Seville, Ronda and the Alhambra Palace in Granada which were all great. We loved it!'
The coastal town of Torre Del Mar is 15 minutes drive from the villa and has everything you could want on holiday. Banks, restaurants to suit all budgets and tastes, supermarkets, bars, chemists, clothes and shoe shops. Visit the colorful weekly market packed with local fruit, veg, bargain leather goods, clothes, handmade local gifts and much more then stroll along the promenade with tropical gardens alongside the beach.
The nearby historical town of Velez-Malaga also has all amenities but is more traditional, with winding streets, cathedrals, tapas bars, theaters, churches and many examples of typical Andalusian buildings. In between the two towns is a large indoor shopping center with 10 screen cinema, bowling, hypermarket and top stores such as Zara, Mango, Nike etc. Local activities include beach, horse riding, water park, golf, sailing, quad biking, country walks, snorkeling, diving, hang gliding, crocodile park, safari park, zoo, historical buildings, museums, aquarium.
Other Activities: Private yoga lessons
Golf: 18 hole Baviera Golf in Caleta de Velez, 15 minutes drive from the villa. Stunning course with excellent club facilities. Buggy hire optional.
Many other golf courses within 1 hour of the villa.
Ski: Granada ski resort in the Sierra Nevada, two hours drive away, easily reachable for a day´s skiing.
Enjoy visiting the real Spain! Arenas is a short drive away and is a traditional Pueblo Blanco or white village. You´ll fall in love with the tiny winding streets, the quaint village houses and of course the locals who always have a friendly greeting. Tourism hasn’t hit this village yet, and this is reflected in the prices, which are incredibly reasonable. A superb three course lunch can be had in Bar Juani for under 10 Euros, including a drink! Arenas is famous in Europe for having the largest population of chameleons, whose color changing skills are magical to watch. The area is also famed for romantic historic tales of the clashes between the Christians and the Moors. The ruins of one Moorish castle can be seen from the villa.
The villa is perfectly placed to explore Andalusia.
Seville, Ronda, Marbella and Antequera are all easily reached for day trips. Malaga city is less than an hour away and has much to offer including the port, tropical gardens and historical quarter with the Pablo Picasso museum just one example of places of interest to visit. Granada is home to the famous Alhambra palace, full of Moorish influence and only two hours from the villa. The well known picturesque town of Nerja is just 20 minutes away, well worth a visit with its internationally renowned caves where live concerts are held, stunning coves and beaches, and all kinds of shops, bars and restaurants. Take a horse drawn carriage tour to see the highlights of the old town.
Car Hire: Group B or above is recommended.

Staying at Villa Camaleon was absolutely relaxed! You feel so remote in the mountains. The view is amazing. The house very clean. I would definitely recommend it!
Villa was in a deep rural location. Facilities in the villa are excellent. Would definitely recommend this property to family and friends. Villa has everything you need and the views are outstanding - sunrise was a treat to see
We had a great week at Villa Cameleon. It was well equipped , in a beautiful, peaceful area with stunning views of the coast and mountains. Ideally situated for exploring the area. We hope to go back again! Thanks James
We enjoyed our stay very much. Of course you have to know that the house is on the top of the "little" mountain. It takes nearly 20 minutes to reach the next supermarket. But the pool, the view and silence are priceless :-) We visited many nice cities like Ronda, Granada and Malaga. On of most impressing experiences was the hike on Caminito del Rey.
Family holiday for 9 nights, absolute bliss. Quiet, serene villa overlooking the mountains and sea, the view is very special. The pool was perfect for our kids (13, 5 & 3), hard to get them out the water.
The host James was very attentive and easy to contact. The drive up is an experience but once you’ve done it once it’s easy after that. The neighbours are friendly too, many waves from the locals as we drove up and down. To get the better views the higher you need to go. The villa itself is well equipped. Everything what you need in a kitchen was provided. A big plus for us was the supply of pool towels. Meant our luggage was considerably lighter. Would definitely return.
The property is situated up a truly spectacular and nerve wracking hill but we soon got used to the drive and it was only 15 mins from the nearest supermarket so although you feel as though you are remote from anywhere it is actually quite close to amenities. The best things about the property are the spectacular views and the peace and quiet - perfect for lazing by the pool, eating leisurely lunches and generally relaxing. The roof terrace is amazing and the table tennis and boules area was also a great bonus and gave us an added focus in the evenings. All in all we wanted to get away from the world for a couple of weeks and this property for perfect for that. Warning though - the tap water is not drinkable so buy water before making the drive up to the property. There are large very cheap bottles for sale at the supermarkets. James was the perfect host just down the hill - he kept to himself but was there if needed. Thank you so much for allowing us stay at your beautiful property!
Had a fantastic family getaway in Villa Camaleon 27th Dec 2024-1st Jan 2025. The villa is up on a hill overlooking the coast, well situated with pretty Italian Cypress trees along the driveway. Completely private, feels remote but has a nice little neighbourhood on the hillside which feels safe. Pack a torch for evening walks. The road up is a single track with pull in areas, we enjoyed the track up and down for the views, if you're an experienced driver no issue, if less so, just take it steady. The villa is clean and tidy with eveything you will need for your stay, washing machine, kettle, hair dryer, plenty of towels, entertainment etc. The pool was great, with coloured lights. Pretty gardens. The best supermarket to stock up - El Ingenio, Velez-Malaga,there is a fuel station and mall type convenience. During our stay we visited Caminito del Rey & El Gaitanejo, the well photographed narrow gorge walkway, we had encounters with goats, found fossils and loved watching the train pass through the gorge, a marvel of engineering. We had a great day out at Cueva De Nerja which is a stunning cave with spectacular formations, there was also a VR experience which sent my brain into a tizzy about simulation theory and some really pleasant botanical gardens. We took quite a hike one day and visited Bajada al Canuelo a lesser trodden, clean, beautiful beach, steep way down from the car park through the woods & back up the road. Lots more to see and do! James, thank you for having us!
A beautiful place of solitude in the madding crowd
We loved this desperately quiet villa with stunning views not only all the way out to sea but in the other direction- amazing views of the Sierra Nevada mountains. We always had the most spectacular sunrises and sunsets. We did go out to the caves at Nerja , kayaking at Playa de Maro to the water caves and Frigiliana (don’t miss this intensely beautiful small town with the tiniest of streets and little shops- really worth it) and various other places BUT mostly we were happy staying by the pool with the wonderful day bed and hammocks, play area, boules court etc. it was so peaceful laying there high up the hills. James was on hand to sort at out a5 minute job and George the friendly dog came up most evenings to see us. Good bbq, aircon (although we didn’t bother with it as a window open at night was actually nicer)With regard to the barking dogs (a house across the hill)that have been mentioned in a couple of reviews- in all honesty they don’t bark at all at night - they bark at feeding time twice a day about 930 ish and about 630 in the evening but they genuinely didn’t disturb us. The other oft mentioned thing was the drive up to the villa. We hired a Peugeot 2008 and treated ourselves to an automatic to make it easier on steeper roads. It was pretty easy actually- I’ve had far worse. If you want a view you gotta head upwards. There is a couple of short sections of 1in 4 but beyond that it is lovely drive up into the hills. A gorgeous villa to just chill and enjoy the view
We loved the stay for the kitchen there is enough equipment only lights outside are missing but we bought some and so it was okay! The road is also good to drive but I would prefer a high car. And the view you get for the drive is amazing
We had a lovely stay at Villa Cameleon, journey up takes a bit of getting used to.. especially if you have a fear of heights, it's very high up but the views once there are absolutely stunning and make it very worthwhile. The property itself is lovely, perhaps some of the furnishings are a little tired in places, but it didn't impact our stay, we thought it was great value for money..the pool area was fab, we spent whole days lounging around. We would definitely come back, sad to leave.

Stunning views
This villa has awesome panaramic views. However the outside area needs attention including pool. The villa really could do with fly screens on windows and doors. Interior lighting needs upgrading. The beds were clean and comfortable however the settees need replacing.
The property is situated high in the mountains, the drive there is not for the faint hearted. Beautiful views, secluded and quiet aprox 20 mins from Valez Malaga where there are supermarkets. Market in Torre Del Mar on a Thursday morning worth a visit. Cómpeta aprox 30 min, lovely drive through mountains and villages, market on a Saturday. The property itself could do with a refresh, although this did not distract from our stay. It was clean, fresh linen, great pool and views. James was attentive to questions and responded to any requests. Air con available but requires 1or 2 euro coins to feed the meter, all other electric included in price. Thanks James we had a lovely stay and hope to be back again
The villa is situated about 10 minutes drive from Velez-Malaga, in the foothills of the Sierra de Tejeda. The drive to the villa is definitely an experience!
The views from the roof terrace and pool area are simply stunning. The villa itself is very private, clean and well equipped. The wildlife is varied and plentiful. James and Rafe are excellent hosts.
The local beaches are clean and safe, with lots of places to eat. Torre del Mar is great for a walk along the sea front.
Nice clean house, a great view, last 3km drive not for insecure driver (narrow poor dirt road uphill, was fine for us). Had to move after one night as no internet connection and poor mobile field so could not work. Decomposing geggo in the pool that according to the host. HHe had been cleaned the day before.

Really beautiful location
This villa is really in a spectacular setting, the drive is a bit sketchy at first but once you are used to it, not a problem. The pool is lovely and the only flaw I have is that there is no air con or ceiling fans, fans would be good as it gets very very hot inside. Also mosquito nets in all bedrooms would be good so you can have some air in the evening. The owners have some sweet dogs which like to visit, they are very gentle rescue dogs. The view is just amazing, perfect place to relax for a week.
Lovely place in the mountains with a beautiful view over the sea. Very nice host who is always happy to help out. As mentioned in other reviews, we would also recommend a bigger car, especially if you got 3 kids, a trolly and your luggage ;)
The house itself got everything you need to stay for a while. We didn't have big things to complain about, only some minor things we already told James. For example the toys on the property or the cooking utilities could be renewed. We really enjoyed our stay and hope you'll too.
It was early spring, so it was 13-14 graden during the day and cold in the evening. The house doesn't have good heating and is poorly insulated and is around 500 meters attitude in the mountains . Keep in mind that the photos don't do justice to the interior of the house. The mattresses are bad, and the among others the furniture needs to be replaced. For us it was not worth the money we paid for it.
I had been looking forward to a crazy steep hill after reading all the reviews, but in reality, it is not actually all that steep if you are coming from a hilly region such as San Francisco. I don't wish to mislead anyone - it is steep - but not so much so that it should put anyone off.
A lovely bottle of wine greeted us and our host could not be more accommodating. The views were spectacular! It's also extremely quiet - there is a kennel nearby and now and then you hear the distant sounds of dogs barking but otherwise its very peaceful. Just the restoration we city dwellers needed! Will definitely return!
A subpar & disappointing stay. Be aware that the pictures are an unfair representation of the property. Clearly taken when the property was first let 10-15years ago with little to no investment or maintenance since. Basically nothing has changed despite being broken/old/damaged/fadedAdditional charges that are not mentioned until you arrive at the house - aircon is pay per use and you need euro coins (not great when you arrive cashless however James did send up 6 for the 1st night). If you use more 10000 ltrs there is an 80 charge for more water. Both of which should be mentioned in the listing or upon booking. The good The location The pool The host - responded to issues quicklyThe bad No outside lighting - can’t use outside areas once it gets dimOutside areas need attentionNo fly screens on any windows No staples in kitchen Aircon not powerful enough for living area Lighting needs updating Hammocks have holes day bed, just a mattress and sheet no drapesThe ugly Holes in bed linen Embarrassingly threadbare and dilapidated sofas Towels frayed at edges not fit for guests Shutters some broken/cords cut Oven - desperately needs replacing can’t read dials it’s that worn and controls are sketchy Lamps are that old the switches short when you move the flex causing the lamps to flick on and off without using the actual switch Shower doesn’t drain so you stand in a fair few inches of water.Overall very tired and neglected property with heaps of potential.
