Retreat by the Sea

Well appointed home with great decor, comfortable beds, beautiful scenery, awesome stocked kitchen and great views of the sea. Easy checkin and out and great communication .

Great Location, Great View

The house was wonderful with a great view of the beach and easy walk to the beach side promenade. Enjoyed our brief stay very much, comfortable bedrooms and nice open layout upstairs. We would definitely come again!

Excellent stay

It was a very satisfying experience. Interactions with the host was very professional, everything was easy to find - keys and wi-fi were shared early. The location is fantastic with ocean view balcony with great sunset views.

Beautiful getaway

We had a fabulous time! The location was great and beach despite being a holiday weekend wasn't too over crowded. I looked forward to walking to grab a coffee and strolling by the beach every morning. The house was comfortable and very well stocked with all the things we needed. Many rentals didn't include beach towels and this place had towels and more! Thanks for a great home away from home

Amazing!

Joan was so thoughtful, my husband and I went to celebrate our 40th anniversary and she had a cake waiting for us. Whimsical, peaceful home that felt like being in a tree house as the top of the beautiful oak trees is the side view, front is the ocean. Easy walk to the beach, and much quieter and peaceful than staying on the beach. Restful, great location, we will be back!!

Great Stay in Bali at the Beach

We enjoyed our stay at Joan's beach house sooooooo much. The weather was beautiful, the beach was empty and the house was cute and comfy. Joan was extremely welcoming and made us feel right at home. Would recommend her place to all. The rental experience was easy, Joan was most accomodating and being in Aptos was just the right "taking-it-easy cure." Thanks so much for the hospitality and we look forward to using your place again soon!

Wonderful home near the beach! We loved our stay here.

Thank you Joan for your wonderful hospitality. Your home was ready for us with homemade cookies and yummy cherries. We felt right at home and was so comfortable. The view of the beach from the patio is gorgeous and it was a nice quick walk down the hill. The road noise is a little loud during the day but at night it's completely quiet. We will come again for sure!!

Beautiful vacation rental overlooking the ocean.

We loved the Bali Beach house in Rio Del Mar. The house was in excellent condition and the views of the ocean and Santa Cruz were outstanding. The house is equipped with everything needed for a wonderful vacation whether you decide to cook at home or go out to the many wonderful restaurants nearby. My son was able to work on line in a beautiful setting overlooking the ocean while my wife and I were taking long strolls along the ocean. I highly recommend this property and hope to come back soon.

Bali-by-the-Beach - all stars

Lucky us - all positive experience: location, property and interaction with the owner. The house is as close to the beach as it can be, great view of the ocean (and backyard, too). Everything is in style, clean and well maintained. Kudos to Joan (the owner)! Excellent communication and execution - from the first to the last day. Thanks Joan for making our stay such a pleasant experience!

Bali- Heaven!

Absolutely beautiful home and location! We truly enjoyed our stay. Could have used a "real"coffee maker instead of the drip. Also, a nice gas grill instead of the tiny hibatchi would be a plus. Beds were extremely comfortable and we had no problem falling asleep. The waves are beautiful music to fall asleep to. Joan is a very inviting host and very easy to work with. Thank you.

Great location and accommodations were spacious and well appointed. Generally, I was impressed with the attention to detail. One small nit; paper products were lacking. No Kleenexes or napkins and very few paper towels. Given the attention to everything else, I suspect this was an oversight.

Fabulous Place

What can I say? This was one of the very best vacations I have ever had. We (my family) absolutely loved the home and I say home because that's how it felt. From the pictures, to the figurines, fantastic stereo system, plates on the wall, furnishings, view, deck, comfy beds, etc.-just a wonderful cozy home! My husband and I even danced to the music of the 70's in the family room! And it's a close walk to the beach and has ample parking which is a super plus! We loved it so much that we didn't want to leave so I called Joan to see if we could stay an extra night and she was gracious enough to say sure! She is a wonderful host and has great taste in decorating. We are already planning on going back as soon as we can. Simply a wonderful place to stay!!!

Fabulous Beach Home

My husband and I traveled to the Santa Cruz/Gilroy area for a family wedding. We have booked many VRBO houses/flats before and have never been let down. This time we were amazed at how beautiful Bali by the Beach was. The decor was unique - no hotel plastic with bad prints here - the amenities were excellent - from spices in the kitchen to shea butter soap in the bathrooms and everything was very, very clean. The kitchen/diningroom/livingroom space was perfect for cooking and meals and relaxation. It was wonderful to be able to walk on the beach in the morning and then sit on the deck in the evening and watch the bonfires down below. Travel to our family events and to Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur was easy by using highway #1. All the services were also close by. Joan was a most gracious host, meeting us when we arrived and providing us with lots of useful information. Also prior to our arrival Joan answered lots of questions by email in a very timely manner. Our deposit was returned quickly after our departure. Overall an excellent home and experience!!

Very comfortable

Beach is steps away, ocean view, everything you would want, fully stocked kitchen. Great communication with mgr. Table on balcony needs repair, umbrella also needs a better stand but still ok. Bar stools on the balcony would lift you up enough to enjoy the view from there.

Great stay at the beach

We had a lovely time at your beach house. The house was in a great location and we loved the view from upstairs. Plenty of space in the house and everything that we needed. The beds could have been a little more comfortable, but other than that, everything was great!

Short beach getaway!

We enjoyed our 3 night stay at Rio Del Mar Beach. The house was great, clean, comfortable for 4 adults, equipped with everything you would need. And just a very short walk to the beach, with great ocean views from the deck. Had some beautiful sunsets. Had fun exploring the area: farmers market, Nisene Mark Park, Capitola, and many beach walks. We hope to return sometime soon!

Great Location, Don't Stay Here if You Are Tall

Overall this property is fantastic! Great location, with many amenities and an ocean view. I stayed here with my sister, my 84-year-old mother and her 83-year-old girlfriend. It was a good thing that they are both short petite women as the bed in one of the bedrooms is up against the wall and has an ornate wood frame on three of the sides, similar to a toddler bed making it impossible for a tall person to sleep in. Unfortunately, these older ladies had to get up frequently throughout the night and my mom had to crawl over her friend to get out of bed. I would stay here again if the bed was changed, making it truly possible for four adults (regardless of height) to stay.

Beautifully decorated and comfortable

We didn't spend much time at this house, since we were joining family nearby for holiday activities throughout most of our time there. But I thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful and interesting decor in this home, full of interesting fun-to-look-at and artistic things. We had one problem, in that we couldn't find the thermostat the night we arrived, and the property manager wasn't able to help us until we discovered it ourselves in the light of the following morning. (We thought the thermostat in the bedroom just wasn't working, not realizing that there was a working thermostat in the darkened hall between the rooms). So it might be good to describe this more clearly! But the beds were very comfortable, and we were generally very pleased to be in this home once we got the heat to work!

Property had an amazing location and vibe! Very clean, well stocked and user friendly. I truly enjoyed my stay and antipate returning. Minor miscommunication from property management company regarding check in email that was immediately corrected. I highly recommend staying here!

This is a great house and location. Large bedrooms, each with their own full bath. The entire house was spotless. The provisions are very thoughtful and generous -- plenty of towels, kitchen ware for every need, etc. A real gem.

Friends long weekend at the beach

The house was well-maintained and comfortable. Great property management, there was an appliance issue and the management phoned us prior to arrival to notify and already had repair scheduled. Kitchen had plenty of dishes and glasses. Appliances all nice and modern. Safeway is very close for a grocery run. We walked down to the beach easily. I recommend this property and would not hesitate to reserve it again. I am grateful we had the opportunity to experience it. Suggestion to owner: The front of house bedroom is really large and the bed is up against wall so it's awkward to get in and out if two are using the bed. Reconfigure the furniture layout in that space and consider adding a second smaller bed in there.
