This small, friendly market town with, cafés, pubs and restaurants set on the edge of the National Park is said to have been based on ‘Postman Pats’ Greendale’, being the gateway to the Cheviots. You can be hiking the Cheviot Hills in the morning and having a local beer in one of the nearby pubs on an evening. St Cuthbert’s Way walk passes via Wooler, a 62-mile route following the ancient pilgrimage route, followed by St Cuthbert and many other monks between Melrose Abbey in the Scottish Borders and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in north Northumberland.
