Nowadays, the horse and carriages have been exchanged for holidaymakers and the ancient buildings have been successfully converted to provide two most interesting cottages with all the desired 21st century facilities that we are so used to but wonderfully married with an Arts and Crafts style theme throughout, perfectly in keeping with the buildings’ historic past.

Yew Tree Cottage is a Victorian double fronted detached house that has been carefully restored, retaining characterful, exposed beams, panelling, flooring with a log burning stove. The handpicked pieces of furniture from the turn of the 20th Century onwards have been sourced to complete the look and transport you back to a bygone era. The large comfortable beds essential for a good nights rest, well fitted shower rooms and modern well equipped kitchen are provided for your self catering stay and even at first glance, Yew Tree and Stable Cottages present as two good quality holiday cottages of a certain style. One can’t help but feel immediately at ease as you enter these unique properties, almost as one felt as a child when visiting Grandma’s house – charmed, cosy and comfortable. Extensive renovation of the stone steps giving individual access from each cottage has brought the charming sunken garden into full use. Its retained features add a delight for kids and holiday makers are welcome to the culinary delights of homegrown rhubarb The patio outside the kitchen door gives room for early evening eating in the sunshine.

Cottage was full of character, very comfortable and well equipped. Ideally situated close to shops, restaurants, takeaways, bus station and railway. Lots to see, places to visit. Had a great time. Will definately return.

It was my husband and our two friends staying a few nights after the London marathon. We loved the cottage and wish we had more time to stay and use the cottage more. We spent a lot of time on the lakes and in town but it was a great place to come home to for a good nights sleep. It was tough driving into the drive mostly because there was uncontrolled road work but it was a little tight and good thing it was just us because if there were 3 other cars it would be hard to maneuver. We loved it and would recommend!
