Please note: For younger children, please bring own cot and related equipment. There are narrow staircases in the property.. Fern Cottage, originally built in 1755, is a stunning semi-detached cottage situated in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. The cottage is spacious and welcoming and has an enclosed garden. Whether you enjoy walking, cycling or driving, with the stunning countryside on your doorstep, Fern Cottage offers great opportunities to explore this beautiful area. This is especially true, if you are a keen cyclist, with The Cycle Hub and café in the near by village. There is also a handy storage room in the property, ideal for storing 4/5 clean bikes. If you need additional space, you can use the dining room when it is not in use.

Lealholm is a popular tourist destination, it has a train station, a well known pub with outside seating, 2 cafés, a village shop, post office and garage, and there is even a plant nursery. The village has stepping stones over the River Esk, and picnic areas. There is a free car park and on road parking just a short walk from the cottage. The coastal towns of Runswick Bay, Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes are just a short drive away, and the historic seaside town of Whitby is just 9 miles away.

Fern Cottage is set out over three floors offering a contemporary and comfortable environment to unwind in. The cottage has been sympathetically restored by local craftsmen, retaining many of its original features and additions throughout the centuries. The cottage has a fabulous farmhouse kitchen and dining room, linked by an open doorway and a cosy double-sided wood burner. Its Yorkshire stone walls and original stripped pine doors have been lovingly restored, and there are generous seating options in the kitchen and dining room. Fern Cottage particularly welcomes cyclists, and clean bikes can be stored in the store room/dining area of the cottage. Beach 9¾ miles. Shop 40 yards, pub and restaurant 220 yards.

Not recommended for children under 5 years old due to the layout of the property, but the owner will accept infants if guests provided their own cots/stairgates etc. Due to Fire Risk, the storage of E-Bikes, E-Scooters and Mobility Scooters inside Fern Cottage is prohibited. There are no facilities in Lealholm for charging electric vehicles.

What a lovely cottage.

What a lovely cottage. The location, Lealholm, is quintessentially English, hidden in the North Yorkshire moors but only minutes away from Whitby (with the best fish & chips in, well, anywhere! The cottage was spotlessly clean and well appointed, and a few steps away from the community shop with all the essential luxuries and fifty yards from the Board Inn (you can take your dog with you!). For eight people it represents excellent value for money. The locals were very friendly too.
