  • City of Wakkanai can be seen from Wakkanai Park which is up the hill or from Centennial Tower which offers a clear view of entire city and also the island of Rishiri. While Wakkanai was just a getaway to the island of Rishiri and Rebun I had a very pleasant stay here. It is quiet and clean with the freshest air! While there isn't much other than a fishing industry here it is here I realized that Japanese had it good as a citizen more than any other parts of the world. We know there are inequalities as a citizen in most part of the world in that the richer cities or sectors of a country will have it better than others in term of basic infrastructure and communal facilities. Not so much in Japan though, even the most remote places its citizen enjoys the same basic services as other parts of the country. That's quite a feat as far as I am concerned. One won't feel one is lacking even if one is few thousand miles away from the core of civilization (as in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto). I think that sums up why Japanese are contented and law abiding no matter where they live! They even queue for basic necessities after a tsunami where they have lost everything they possess! No other country has such discipline and order in its citizens!

稚内駅から徒歩圏内です。駅周辺の繁華街にも近いですが、静かに休める立地です。海側の客室からは稚内市のシンボルの１つの防波堤ドームを眺めることができます。客室は改装されたのだと思いますが清潔で気持ちよく利用できました。食堂では海を眺めながら朝食をいただきました。

Situated in a corner of a street, it was quiet. Room was comfortable, and it has a nice view of the sea and the breakwater dome. It’s about a five minutes walk from the JR station.

フロントのチェックイン時の男性スタッフの応対がいまいち。朝食もINで予約して料金前払いしてるのに、素泊まりでご予約ですねー、と。よく確認してほしい。 非喫煙者なのでタバコの匂いが染み付いている部屋はきつかった。 朝食時、約束時間に30分遅刻したが、レストランの方は嫌な顔ひとつせず、親切に対応してくれました。とても好感が持てました。

วิวดีมาก ดีกว่า ANA crown ที่นอนคืนแรกอีก ห้องเก่ากว่า ANA แต่ความสะดวกสบายไม่แพ้กัน แถมห้องแต่ละห้องมีแอร์แยก มาในหน้าหนาว เปิดเปึนระบบแอร์ได้ ไม่ต้องเปิดเครื่องทำความร้อนเหมือน รร อื่น อากาศในห้องจึงไม่ร้อน. ได้จองห้องวิวทะเลห้องริมสุดเลยทำให้เหึนวิวทะเล ทั้งสองของเนื่องจากหน้าต่าง 180 องศา วิวสวยมาก ชั้นล่างมีอ่อนเซึนเลึกเลึกอยู่ด้วย พนังงานพูดภาษาอังกฤษไม่ได้ มีที่จอดรถหน้า รร สรุปว่าคุ้มค่า ห้องอาจไม่ทันสมัยและใหม่เท่า ANA crown ที่อยู่ใกล้ใกล้กัน แต่โดยรวมคุ้มค่ากว่า

호텔 자체는 굉장히 좋다

프론트 직원도 굉장히 친절하시다. 어디 찾아가고 싶다고 말하니 데려다주기도 하는 등 굉장히 성심성의껏 손님을 대한다. 다만 왓카나이 역에서 너무 멀다는게 흠. 걸어서 10분은 가야하는데 날도 춥고 눈도 오니.... 다만 바깥 풍경은 바다도 보이고 굉장히 좋다

ビュッフェとはまた違う良さ。

朝食はレストランに一人一人にトレイで準備されています。ビュッフェ式のように欲しいものを好きなだけというわくわく感はないですが、おもてなしを感じられる朝食でした。朝食の内容も和食のオーソドックスな内容でしたが、十分満足できるおいしい朝食でした。

Local Japanese hotel with good views of Soya Bay

An impulsive off-season visit to see Cape Soya brought us to Wakkanai. Booked the hotel on route using the excellent Expedia app, which has proved so useful on our JR whistle stop (literally!) tour of Japan. Opted for this local hotel (rather than the more well known brands) as it offered a Japanese style room. This turned out to be a good call :) As well as the spectacular views, Wakkanai and Cape Soya have many excellent and moving monuments dedicated to world peace.
