The Space:

Ridgestone is proud to present Force Mill Barn, an exceptional converted barn set within the peaceful Grizedale Valley, offering a beautifully designed retreat for up to four guests. Surrounded by ancient woodland, rolling hills and the gentle flow of Force Forge, this luxurious rural hideaway is perfectly placed for those seeking tranquillity while remaining within easy reach of Satterthwaite and Hawkshead.



Inside, the barn has been thoughtfully restored to combine contemporary comfort with rustic charm. The main living space occupies the top floor, making the most of the light and the views. This open-plan room features a stylish kitchen with Smeg appliances, an induction hob, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and a Smeg espresso machine for freshly brewed morning coffee. A generous dining table sits beneath the beams, while the inviting lounge area offers plush seating, a Smart TV and a log burner for relaxed evenings after a day in the forest.



Two bedrooms are arranged across the lower floors, each offering its own sense of privacy. The impressive master suite on the first floor includes a super-king bed, Smart TV and a freestanding copper bath positioned within the room for a touch of indulgence. Adjacent is a modern walk-in shower room. The second bedroom on the ground floor features a king-size bed, Smart TV and its own contemporary shower room. A peaceful snug on the ground floor offers an additional place to unwind, ideal for reading or quiet moments.



Outdoors, guests can enjoy a private patio directly outside the property, perfect for a peaceful morning coffee or an evening drink overlooking the valley. A path leads to the banks of Force Forge, a beautiful woodland stream that runs through the grounds and creates a serene place to sit and listen to the water. Nature thrives here, with abundant birdlife and the nearby forest home to the UK’s last wild red deer herd.



Guest Access:

Ridgestone's guests have full private use of the entire barn, including the open-plan living area, snug, two bedrooms, bathrooms and the well-equipped kitchen. Outdoor seating is provided on the patio, and guests are welcome to enjoy the grounds leading down to Force Forge. The stream and surrounding woodland are natural and unfenced, so care is advised.



Private driveway parking is available for up to two vehicles.

WiFi is provided throughout the barn.

A travel cot is available on request, though bedding is not supplied.

The property does not accept pets.



The Neighborhood:

Force Mill Barn sits within the peaceful Grizedale Valley, a quiet and picturesque corner of the Lake District known for its woodland trails, wildlife and walking routes. The village of Satterthwaite is less than a mile away, home to a friendly local pub, and the charming village of Hawkshead is just four miles north, offering shops, cafés and traditional inns.



The surrounding forest is home to abundant birdlife and the UK’s last wild red deer herd, often seen in the valley. With lakes, fells and historic attractions within easy reach, this is a superb base for exploring the southern Lakes while enjoying rare tranquillity.



Getting Around:

The rural setting is best explored by car. Private parking is available at the barn, and the lanes leading through Grizedale are quiet and scenic.



The nearest villages are Satterthwaite and Hawkshead, both accessible within minutes by car.

Local taxi services operate in the wider area, but pre-booking is recommended due to limited rural availability.



Public transport is limited in this valley. The closest larger transport links can be found at Windermere (train station) or Coniston (bus connections), both within reasonable driving distance.



Other Things to Note:

The barn spans multiple levels, and the internal stairs may be unsuitable for very young children or guests with mobility difficulties.

Firewood for the log burner is not supplied but can be purchased from local shops and petrol stations.



Smoking or vaping is not permitted indoors.



This is a quiet rural area; please be considerate and refrain from parties, events, or loud music.
