  • Jagdish Temple is one of the famous temples of Udaipur. Located in the City Palace complex of Udaipur, this temple is made in the Indo-Aryan style of architecture. In 1651, Jagdish temple was built by Maharana Jagat Singh, who ruled Udaipur during 1628-53. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu (Laxmi Narayan), the preserver of the Universe. It is celebrated for being the largest temple in the city of Udaipur. The gateway of this temple can be sited at a distance of 150 meters from the Bara Pol of the City Palace. This three-storied temple is a wonder of architecture that comprises beautifully carved pillars, decorated ceilings, painted walls and lush halls. In those times, 1.5 million rupees were spent to raise this structure. The spire of the main temple is around 79 feet high that undoubtedly dominates the skyline of Udaipur. This shikhar (spire) is festooned with sculptures of dancers, elephants, horsemen and musicians making it truly a sight to behold. As and when you approach the temple, you will be welcomed by two huge stone elephants at the entrance. On the very front of the temple, you would find a stone slab that is imprinted with the inscriptions with reference to Maharaja Jagat Singh. To reach the main shrine, you have to take a marble flight of 32 steps. Here, you will find a brass image of Garuda, a figure of half-man and half-eagle. This huge idol stands as if; it is guarding the doorway of Lord Vishnu.

Wonderful hotel on a lake in Udaipur

Wonderful hotel facing one of the lakes in Udaipur, close to everything but still quiet and calm. Beautiful pool in courtyard and three restaurants with delicious food. The service was excellent - the staff was always friendly and accommodating.

Beautiful but noisy

It was a great hotel but oh man was it ever noisy! the loud music from bars nearby will surely disturb your sleep, so if you sleep before 11pm- good luck! Also wifi does not work in the rooms, works pretty well in the lobby. the hotel service was great and the proximity to city was a bonus.

I stayed 3 nights… Night 1- room with balcony no view- very loud music coming from restaurant/bar, started in the evening lasted till about 11pm or 12am. Room/Bathroom had slight smell, bathroom- there was no shower curtain or divider to protect water from getting all over the place. The linen closet was located next to my room and workers used it as a lounge. Night 2- room with balcony no view (after I had complained, I was moved to the room right below my first nights stay). My only issue was the loud music once again. Night 3- room with balcony with garden view. Very nice, quiet and finally got some sleep. Food- good, nice breakfast spread Hotel- clean, nicely decorated Staff- friendly Wi-Fi- glitchy, not so great in rooms I didn’t walk around surrounding area of hotel so I can’t comment on safety.

Stayed at Swaroop for 3 nights with family. Property itself is lovely but the treatment by management and staff we received spoilt the stay. Arrived a little earlier than check in. Everywhere else we stayed (and usual for most hotels) they would check us in and look after our bags and let us know when the room was ready. Would not check us in. Left our bags away from the reception next to the lift. Check in when room was ready took about 20 minutes to scan each passport and visa - which could have easily been done earlier while we were hanging around. Room was very big and spacious and clean. Comfortable beds. TV didn't work. On check in we were told breakfast was included. So we went to breakfast first morning. Very poor breakfast buffet. Coffee was little nescafe sachets supplied in the room anyway. Cereal was stale. Toast and chips! We didn't eat much. Next morning went to breakfast and after eating a bowl of the stale cereal each and one cup of coffee we were presented with a bill for 1500 INR (approx $26). We were obviously surprised not only by the bill (as we had been told breakfast was included) but also by the amount! No menu or mention of price on display. Queried at reception. Now told not included! Had we known we would not have returned. Explained this and that we had only eaten cereal so amount was excessive. Response was completely unreasonable. Manager accused us of being liars and stealing breakfast and threatened to call the police!

We had a great time and experience staying there. Loved the food at Cafe and main restaurant. We had three meals there and all were delicious. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. We asked for an early check in and they were very helpful. We stayed in a family suite . Very comfortable bedding and enough room for a family of four. We will definitely be coming back. Had an amazing experience.

Swaroop Vilas is a terrible property every which way you look at it. The rooms are extremely unhygienic, the staff is extremely rude and uncooperative and the location is next to a swamp. The entire property is a health hazard and visitors can expect to become ill after getting exposed to their extremely unhygienic rooms. More to come. This property should be removed from listing on expedia.

Loud dance club dominates the hotel

Do you love hearing club music so loud it rattles your windows? Do you wish you could sleep INSIDE a club? Well, then this is the hotel for you. What a nightmare. Not only are the amazing pictures of the pool completely misleading, but at some point this hotel decided to open a nightclub in its courtyard, blasting loud dance music until past 11pm most nights—worse on the weekends—straight at the rooms. If you were hoping for a quiet stay, relaxing by a lovely courtyard pool, you’re in for a big disappointment. It’s a shame, because otherwise the hotel has a lot of charm, has nice rooms, and is pretty conveniently located. If they hadn’t made me pay up front, though, I would have left early, it’s that loud. Too bad.

In due giorni di soggiorno non mi hanno rifatto la camera. Purtroppo me se sono accorto al mio rientro solo a sera tardi e non potevo chiederlo. Disappointing stay in what is a beautiful hotel!

Sadly this hotel has so much going for it in terms of architecture and character. Unfortunately though the service is lacking- staff do try to make an effort but they really haven’t got the appropriate customer service training they require. Breakfast was really disappointing and unless you enjoy tucking into the usual Indian breakfast on offer at most places, there’s not a lot to choose from apart from trustee eggs and cornflakes!

I made numerous, appalling & unsuccessful phone calls to Expedia’s customer service to request a refund upon exceptional hygiene pest found upon arrival to our hotel overseas, two months after my travels NO REFUND. Expedia is not willing to refund, due to Swaroop Vila hotel not refunding Expedia. How is this my problem? Had to look for a different hotel and didn't stay at all here.

It is nice hotel to say with family our stay was only for one night so we are not using all the amenities But overall it was very nice
