Piazza dell’Unità (or Piazza dell'Unità d’Italia) is a huge sea-facing square and a magnificent accomplishment of civic pride. Once a location for extravagant processions and celebrations, today a combination of landmark architecture and cultural events continue to make it the city’s pulsating heart. Designed by Giuseppe Bruni, Piazza dell'Unità is enclosed on three sides, with one open side looking out over the Gulf of Trieste. The Postojna Cave is an intricate network of tunnels decorated by stalagmites and other natural features. An electric train runs through the intriguing passageways, which lead deep into the hillside before opening up at the site of a magnificent Renaissance castle.

Dragon Bridge (Zmajski most) is a fairytale-like bridge that crosses the Ljubljanica River to the Old Town of Ljubljana. Stroll across the bridge, appreciate its craftsmanship and admire its decorative statues. The bridge opened to the public in 1901 and was originally known as the Jubilee Bridge of Emperor Franz Joseph I. It replaced an old wooden bridge and is one of Europe’s earliest examples of a reinforced concrete bridge.

Prešeren Square (Prešernov trg) marks the heart of Ljubljana’s city center. It’s an attractive cobblestone square beautified by historical landmarks and views of Castle Hill.
