Things to do in Évora

Évora Cathedral is among the many wonderful and well-preserved historic sites that make the scenic town of Évora so inviting. History is everywhere in Évora, so of course it makes sense that the University of Évora has a rich past. The university is the beating heart of the town, the place which constantly draws in new young residents. But for tourists, too, there is a lot to see here. Évora’s Templo Romano, also known as the Roman Temple of Évora or the Diana Temple, is one of the major draws for visitors to this historic town. This remarkable ruin is still in very good shape after more than 2,000 years. Visit it and see for yourself why it is considered one of the finest examples of ancient Roman architecture to be found anywhere on the Iberian Peninsula.

The Igreja de São Francisco, or the Church of St. Francis, is among Évora’s most visited sites. Come here to admire a fine example of late 15th to early 16th-century architecture.
