Things to do in City Of Holdfast Bay


The coastal town of Glenelg is a local favorite, ideal for swimming, dining and entertainment. When Europeans first settled in South Australia in 1836, they chose the sandy white shores of Holdfast Bay to build their homes. Almost 180 years later, the town they formed, Glenelg, remains one of the most popular coastal regions in the state.

Brighton Beach is a large, sandy beach with pretty deep water, making it great for ocean swimming and other summer activities. While usually quieter than Glenelg Beach to the north, there is always something to see and do around Brighton Beach’s old jetty. So, grab your togs and check it out.

Adelaide’s only amusement park, The Beachhouse, combines a water park and traditional arcade gaming for a day of fun for all ages. The Beachhouse is built around the restored carousel from Adelaide’s original theme park, Luna Park Glenelg. It’s home to an 18-hole mini-golf course and a series of water slides. See it all from atop Australia’s only single-arm Ferris wheel.


Stroll along Glenelg Jetty to breathe in the fresh ocean air and enjoy the panoramic views of picturesque sandy beaches and bustling cafés on the shore. Spot marine wildlife and relax on the soft green grass of Jimmy Melrose Park.

At the northern end of Glenelg’s foreshore discover a busy hub of shopping, dining and leisure at Holdfast Shores Marina. Enjoy a stellar view of the ocean and mix with the locals at one of the marina’s bars.
