Country Get Away

If you’re looking for a relaxing get away retreat, we have a 400 square foot studio apartment with a very comfortable Murphy bed. A complete equipped kitchen, huge walk-in shower, and private deck. Beautiful wooded surroundings, with lots of great hiking and biking in the summer, and cross country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. A writers paradise.
20 miles out of LaGrande, Oregon. Close to great fishing and rafting on the Grande Ronde river, and the Wallowa river in eastern Oregon.

There is no WiFi and no television, but we have lots of DVDs and VHS for your enjoyment.
Adults only please, no children.
If you book in the winter you really need a 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle. We get lots of snow. We also have snow shoes available.
Make sure you stock up on groceries or goodies before you head out to the studio. We’re 20 miles out of town.
A stones throw down the road is Growiser, a wildflower preserve. Lots of trails and beautiful flowers from April through July.
We are also about 60 miles from Joseph and Wallowa Lake. A beautiful scenic drive to get there. 7 miles away in Elgin is the Excursion Train which takes you into the Minim Wilderness.

One of the best stays we’ve ever been to. The property is great for lounging and walking around, there’s the most incredible night skys, and Rich and Donna are the kindest hosts, quick to answer questions and they went above and beyond, making us feel like family. La Grande is a short drive away for any needs and for restaurants. We truly plan on going back because this is a perfect spot for a weekend getaway.
With no light pollution the stars are incredible

Great little stay

Cute, clean, a nice place. The roads getting to it are flat gravel dirt, which I know is common in the area, but still a bummer. Nice and quiet. Calming atmosphere.

Tranquil hidden gem

Wish we could have stayed longer!

We attended a wedding not far from the property. We wish our stay could have been a couple more days. The property was beautiful, the hosts were very polite and their “guard” dog was so sweet! Thank you again:)

What a peaceful sanctuary for the evening!

Chipmunks, deer and fawns, little tree frogs.... all the perfect sounds of nature, with nary a human noise! AHHH! We hope to return next spring for the wildflower hike and add yet more wonder to this awesome overnight experience! Thanks, Richard and Donna - you are TOPS!

It exceeded our expectations. Very enjoyable. Booking a stay months ahead was a new experience for us. We needed a location close to a rural Wedding venue.We were not disappointed. The photos were inviting. The delight we felt when we walked into our home for the next few days, was relief! It truly was beautiful, clean, and decorated with a special touch. We sat on the deck surrounded by trees. The peace and quiet was opposite of the crowdedWedding guests and joyful exuberance of many young people.It was a two day retreat after the wedding that fed our hearts and souls.The hosts, Richard and Donna, were available at times to show us trails through the woods up to a plateau to show us an expansive view of the valley. It was a no brainer, to book another stay in two months with our new found kindred spirits!

I slept so well there and I needed it. There are not the noises of the typical town or city. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who doesn’t want to be in town and can cook their own meals, town is down the road. But in return you get to relax and enjoy the quite, nature and beautiful surroundings.

This apartment is above a double car garage. It is very quiet out in the country here and secluded. It's over 5 miles back into town down a gravel road so be sure to bring your own groceries or eat before arriving. We were greeted immediately by the owner who showed us to the apartment and even carried one of our bags up the staircase. He was very friendly and chatted with us, even recommending a place to eat over in Joseph, Oregon, where we were going. The apartment was lovely and had everything one would need to cook a meal. It was very hot when we were there so they had a portable A/C unit on, which we really appreciated. The deck outside has chairs to relax on and enjoy the view of the hillside and woods. It was a very cozy stay here. If you want a quiet place to just relax and unwind, this place is for you! Just be aware that you'll be needing to visit the car wash in Island City on your way out after driving the 5 miles in and back out on the gravel road.

We enjoyed the relaxing time at the property. The studio is excellently furnished and very quaint. We enjoyed our hosts and their warm welcome. Take time to sit out in the yard and watch the deer at sunset.
