Right on the corner of the old-fashioned downtown Sonoma plaza, next to restaurants, bars, shopping, bakeries, and the historic Mission. No elevator, but one room on the ground floor, which had high ceilings, A/C and fan. Excellent communication with staff.
Great location, friendly staff and rustic rooms made for a fun stay. Only downside was the walls are somewhat thin so noise from the other rooms (especially the shower) was a bit loud.
Loved the quaint, rustic-esque style. We climbed the stairs to the top floor because there's no elevator, but considering all the great food we ate, we needed that..lol! Totally adore u Heidi at the front💜this hotel is perfectly located in the center of EVERYTHING quaint&delicious..
Nice old-school hotel well located on the corner of Sonoma Square. The room was Surprisingly quiet at night given the location. Not modern -- more of a throwback to a prior era of hotels. I kinda liked that.
We loved the location and convenience of being right on Sonoma Square. The hotel was an older building but very well maintained. The room was spacious, bathroom a little small, but everything worked well. Nice tub is you like that. We liked the historical artifacts throughout the hallway. My husband said it felt like staying at his grandmother's house. Lobby was always staffed and was very helpful. The only slightly negative thing was the noise from the restaurant right below our room. (Girl and the Fig). On the otherhand, it was very convenient if you wanted to dine there!
Can’t believe I forgot your name, front desk gal, but thank you so much for helping me with so many things this phone included. I really enjoyed my stay and particularly being able to walk out my door and walk to so many things. my bed was so comfy and I had the best sleep I appreciate you getting me the downstairs room I also wanted to compliment you on your bathroom toiletries. some of the nicest I’ve experienced. I will be sure to stay here again
Very quiet and comfortable. No elevator I saw so had to lift luggage up the stairs but I didn’t find that was difficult. Worth it for the hotel and location.
Convenient location to the town square, restaurants and wineries. A bit noisy as it’s on the corner. Bed mattress needs rotation from head to toe so one’s head is not slanted at a negative grade.
If you’re looking for modern, state of the art amenities this is not the place for you. But it was perfect for our one night stay. Nothing large or fancy about our particular room but it was clean and very comfortable. This was a second stay for us…we will surely stay again. I LOVE how the nostalgia of this hotel has been maintained. Location is excellent for access to anything in the square and/or walking to nearby establishments. And, The Girl & The Fig Restaurant is right next door!.
A very nice, rustic old west hotel - spacious rooms, old fashioned tub and shower, decor was westernish. Area itself is great, safe at night, convenient shopping and dining. Only negative was that there was insufficient staff to have coverage so we were left with key to lock hotel when we came and went - lock was tricky to operate. if they can address their staffing issues this is a great place to stay, i just don't like being responsible for locking up their business - this is not a camping cabin in the woods, its a hotel and there are other guests, etc.
Charming historic hotel, comfortable bed, very clean, complete with all necessary amenities. The cable TV did not work in my room, and I didn't report it because I didn't want to spend the time on it as my time in the room was limited. Anyone with physical limitations should consider that, as advertised, there is no elevator, it's 1 long & 2 short flights of stairs to the 2nd floor (more to the 3rd), the stairs (carpeted) are fairly steep with a banister on only one side, and the claw-foot tub is fairly deep. But it's a lovely, quiet place to stay in an excellent area.

Really quaint spot, but bring earplugs :)
We had an overall lovely stay at the Sonoma Hotel. You can't do any better than this location for access to things around Sonoma Square. Free parking is plentiful nearby. The place has a very historic charm to it (keys! Actual keys to your room!). And while the rooms are small, you have everything you need.
As others have mentioned, the noise is an issue. I'm not sure I would stay on the second floor again, given the opportunity for noise below you and above you. Every step the person above you takes is bothersome because, as others have said, the floors are old and creaky and it's not subtle noise. The doors are very thin, and each floor has a small common area where housekeeping does its thing and where people come and go, all of which can be heard quite clearly. We stayed in Room 27, overlooking the corner of 1st & Spain. That room is also next to the only set of stairs where people access their rooms. We had no issue at all with road noise, but there was a lot of noise from hotel guests. Perhaps the other rooms had better luck, but I doubt it, given that the others would be over the restaurant, which I imagine to be noisy in its own ways. Earplugs and white noise apps were a necessity for sleep here.
In short: I WOULD stay here again, but not on the second floor, and maybe not in the rooms that are adjacent to the staircase, given the tools we have to manage the issues of general noise.
