Not really knowing what to expect, I at first was nervous due to the front entrance. It doesn't appear up to date and I had one of the tiles loosen almost out of place. That was my only concern throughout my stay. The hotel staff greeted me warmly and offered me slippers to change into (my feet were too big for any of them). It was an easy check in. I carried my stuff to my room and honestly thought they had made a mistake. The room was so nice, clean, spacious, updated and furnished well that I thought I was in the wrong room. I could've stayed in the room the whole day because of how nice it is compared to many other rooms in Japan. Breakfast was welcomed and different from usual hotel breakfasts offered. I'm writing this as a two month traveler of the country. They deserve every good rating they receive.
Entrance building and dining room are part of an old inn building with interesting traditional architecture.
Spacious comfortable room for three.
Nice soaking tub/shower with lovely toiletries.
Super comfy beds but pillows had one really hard side with a loofa like texture under the pillowcase.
We got rooms on the first and second floors. Beautiful ceiling to floor windows. BUT Had to keep the blinds closed all the time unless we were ok with having people see in from the neighboring apartment building. Sunny but view was also of the back of the entrance building and some random plants in an unused courtyard.
Onsen on fourth/top floor. Nice amenities. Relaxing waters. Sign says the windows with view of Otaru have a one way viewing film so people can’t see in. However one could see the inside ceiling and tops of the walls from the ground outside.
Breakfast buffet was delicious and good variety given the size of the hotel. Japanese and western cuisine. Even got to try venison.
Short walk to shopping and restaurants but very hilly.
Would return but ask for room on upper floors with better views.
