stay
The establishment was a little run down and we were a bit dubious of whether to stay , and to eat there. But the rooms were clean, bed comfy, food was good and bar well stocked.
could have done with some soap in bathroom and one room didn't have a loo roll.
The bar area was ok, and the food was good, but the bed rooms hadn’t been made up, towels missing, mugs missing, waste bin in toilet not emptied, sink was dirty.
No breakfast available at all, bar closed very early, was quiet - no other customers of any kind were there at any time. Poor chap who appeared to be the only person around did his best, why was somewhere I have stayed at before been run into the ground ?
The 'S' in The Swan Inn on the front of the building was hanging off when I arrived, next day it had fallen off completely !!!
The bar meals were OK. However, there was no breakfast service at the property so I left without staying the night and went home.
Property rather run down and rickety.
In the 1980’s or 1990s it might have been acceptable, and it does seem tired.
A little scruffy round the edges. Needs a complete makeover and modernising if they expect repeat business.

It was a lovely old inn but it needed a thorough clean. The entrance and stairs were particularly bad. The staff were indifferent reminded me of the hotel in Psycho. We only saw 2 other customers. Furthermore they took payment when we had already paid Expedia for bread and breakfast then said they didn’t do breakfast when we came down in the morning.
In the 1980’s or 1990s it might have been acceptable, and it does seem tired. They shouldn’t be charging today’s prices for such a condition.

Liked: Cleanliness
The bedroom was ok, but bathroom left a lot to be desired, less than a third of a toilet roll no spare, no glasses glass or plastic to clean your teeth, bath panel cracked, toilet needs a lot of bleach in it for it to be clean, soap dispenser in shower not working.
Had a shower went from nice warm water to cold.
Bed was comfortable and nice white towels.
Room 4 right above the bar can be noisy would we stay again? No.
Very little service. The first day we had to take our wet towels to the landlady to get them replaced. The towels were replaced on the second day but nothing else was done to the room.
Room was filthy, and the staff (the owner in particular) were very rude and unhelpful.
I booked a room with two twin beds for 3 nights, and only stayed one due to how dirty the floors were.
Not only was the room unclean, but the initial room we were let into was a double bed that was clearly in use, with an unmade bed and used tea cups on the bedside table.
Despite checking out early, the owner refused to refund me for the 2 nights we didn't stay and argued that the dirty floors was a matter of "my opinion".
I have attached photos of said floors.
At check-in I was asked to pay when I had already paid.
I was told that I had to enter my car reg into a machine to get free parking. I could come back any time to my room, but after 10pm I could not access the machine after 10pm. Duh!
This place is unattended overnight.
The room supplied tea and coffee but only one cup in a double room. No one onsite to get another.
No glasses even for a glass of water.
The description of the property stated that breakfast was available, but there was none.
I had to re-tune the telly myself to get it to work.
No heating. No extra blankets.
Upon our arrival at the Swan Inn we managed (eventually) to attract the attention of a young man who appeared to be an employee and we explained that we had a reservation to stay for three nights.
Again, eventually, we were shown up some flights of stairs.
At 64 and only 5ft tall I was visibly struggling with my luggage and so was a little disconcerted that the aforementioned young man strolled effortlessly ahead burdened only by a set of keys.
He stopped at the top, handed over said keys and immediately departed without so much as a backward glance.
Upon entering the room we were somewhat taken aback by the sight of an unmade queen bed with some dirty mugs on the bedside table. This clearly wasn’t the twin beds we had booked, but hey, anyone can make a mistake! back down the stairs went my daughter and explained the problem to the same young man.
He handed her another set of keys and gave an alternative room number, but this time, didn’t bother with the unnecessary exertion of accompanying her. The second room was equipped with twin beds and on a cursory inspection appeared to be guest ready, ie the beds were made and there were no dirty cups. The door lock didn’t seem to work, but hey, it’s an old Inn, nowhere is perfect.
We dumped our luggage and left for a prearranged appointment. We left the door unlocked as we really couldn’t make it work.
On our return at around 8.30 pm we began to realize with mounting horror the real condition of our room. Please see attached picture
