The Turtle Red River Gorge Pet Friendly Modern A-Frame

  • The Turtle is a modern and unique cabin, decorated with folk art by local artists.

    The cabin is located in Wolfe County off of Ky Hwy 15. Nearby areas include, Natural Bridge with a 13 mile drive and Sky Bridge Station with a 4 mile drive. Please read driving details below.

    Whether your vacation plan is to hike, climb or relax with friends and family, The Turtle provides the comfort and style that will provide happy memories of the Red River Gorge.

    The meaning of the cabin’s name, “The Turtle” is two fold. One the obvious, turtles have a shell cover, similar to the A Frame house. Two, the expression, “Turtles all the way down,” which is now a famous song. Also, it means an infinite regress or the torment and relief of unanswerable questions.

    The Turtle’s theme is Folk art and Folk music. All of the artwork in the cabin is original and painted by local artists from Wolfe County. The paintings are so unique, you really are able to make your own interpretation of what they mean to you.

    You will see a record player at The Turtle with a variety of records from my personal collection. They are mostly folk, country albums and some Blues. If that is your taste, enjoy. If it is not, then play a record anyways for fun. The sound of a record is soulful.

    The Turtle is furnished with speakers for playing your favorite music. The Alexa speaker is located in the kitchen when you walk in the door. The Turtle has an Amazon subscription, so all you need to do is say, “Hey Alexa, play…..” and it will play.

    There is a hot tub on the deck and vast seating to enjoy the outdoors. The Wifi provided has the capability for streaming your favorite series. The house has two bedrooms, one a queen bed and the other a king bed, both with memory foam mattresses and extra pillows for resting after a long day of hiking.

We had the best time here. It's very secluded and private! Beautiful property. Everything went smooth as can be for checking in. This is on top of all of the places we have stayed at so far and we will be back. They had everything we needed! The bed in the loft was so comfortable and we felt like we were at home all weekend.

Never been to Red River Gorge it did not disappoint. And The Turtle was one of the highlights! The TV by the Hot tub was paramount , location was key and the cleanliness of this Mountain Getaway was spot on! Accommodations were wonderful, host knocked it out of the park! 10 out of 10 would book with them again!
