Overnight in Rockhampton

Interesting hotel in city centre. Short walk to restaurants, river and walks. Good for a stopover on way north or south.

Stay was great. Only downside was lack of breakfast on Sunday morning. Understand this may be difficult to get sorted or maybe lack of patronage but it was a problem for us. Otherwise say was great.

We stayed here to break up the drive between Noosa and Airlie Beach. The staff member at check in was very friendly and helpful. Advised us to take everything out of our car however as there are often car thefts and break ins in Rockhampton apparently which didn’t give a great impression. We had a long drive before arrival and unfortunately the hotel was not offering any hot food that evening just a limited mini bar. When I asked about restaurants in the area the staff member at check in said most restaurants would close at 8pm which we thought as odd for a Saturday evening. This review is more about Rockhampton itself rather than the hotel. The hotel room was clean and fine for a stopover and thankfully our car wasn’t broken into. Rockhampton itself had a very strange and eerie vibe. It was a ghost town at 7pm on a Saturday with nearly everything closed. Fine for a stopover to break a journey but wouldn’t have wanted to stay in the area for longer than that as the town didn’t seem to have much to offer.

DO NOT BOTHER - disgusting owner behaviour

Upon attempting to check-in at around 6.30pm, after a long drive from Airlie Beach (5hrs), the purported owner of this hotel was rude, obnoxious and aggressive towards me. The internet was supposedly down at the hotel and owner wouldn’t accept cash bond to cover incidentals and insisted on writing down my Credit Card details on a piece paper so he could later charge my card. This is not customary practice in this day and age given the very high levels of credit card fraud and me / family being half way through our 2 week holiday, I did not want my CC to be compromised and cancelled. Owner refused to answer if he had contacted the internet service provider to register the issue or how long issue would take to resolve. This hotel booking was fully prepaid back in May for a one-night stay after Xmas. I refused to stay at the hotel as the behaviour of the owner was quite disturbing and made it feel unsafe for my young family, which includes a 23 month old. My family and I ended up staying at The Empire Hotel/ Apartments down the road, which I would highly recommend. I have lodged a formal complaint with Hotels.com regarding this incident, which while is indeed a very rare occurrence, and I usually don’t provide reviews, as there never any such issues to highlight, but the absolutely disgusting behaviour of the owner, leaves me no choice but to warn others. I strongly recommend against booking this hotel.

Great location and a good overnight place to stay on our road trip south. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious, we were disappointed that the cafe wasn’t open the night we stayed.

Very pleasant stay

Three night stay enroute to FNQ. It was a very comfortable stay. We had a corner heritage room which was spacious with a modern ensuite. Fernando’s restaurant was excellent, the food was beautifully prepared and presented. Staff were all friendly, helpful and efficient. We plan to stay again on our way back south.
