The Neighborhood:
Ipanema is arguably the trendiest neighbourhood in Rio. Situated on one of the most beautiful stretches of beach in the world, Ipanema is where some of the most beautiful people of Rio flock. The spirit of Ipanema is drawn from the culture that emanates from the one-of-a-kind beach (which sits immediately adjacent to Copacabana). The tropical sunshine, warm water and stunning view entices locals and visitors alike to surf and sunbathe by day and dance in the coolest bars and clubs in Rio well into the night. One of the main advantages of staying in Ipanema: you have a great beach, various bars & restaurants, fashionable shops, and some of the best clubs all within walking distance.
Getting Around:
There are various public transport options nearby. The Metro has 3 different lines and offers A/C. It’s possible to go to every neighborhood in the south area, the north area and Barra da Tijuca in the west area. VLT is one of the newest transport in the city: a modern train is inspired by the old tram that used to be in use downtown. It offers a very interesting route through squares and memorable points of the city as well as Santos Dumont Airport. There are also many different lines of buses. To access the bus in the city, you can use Rio Card or pay directly to the bus driver with cash. Buses are 24 hours with a reduced service after midnight. There are 8 train lines operating out of Central Station providing access to the suburbs of Rio and Baixada Fluminense. Finally there are Barcas, the waterway network connecting the city with its islands (Paquetá and Governador) and the municipality of Niterói (Arariboia and Charitas.) Transporation APPs (Uber, 99 Taxi etc) and bikes are also widely used.
