Welcome to Hazel Modernist 5 - designed and built by Alicia Hylton-Daniel with her "sister," Modernist 6 next door.

Power walk to downtown, this sleek getaway is comfortable & livable. Fully equipped chefs kitchen opens into the large living & dining space, with Frame TV and fireplace. 3BR & side deck give plenty of space together or alone.

Each home by Alicia is infused with creative and new design concepts. This playful home embodies the irrepressible spirit & evolving style of Grace Jones.

This location is convenient to downtown, and for us, to relatives. Everything was spotless, and there were many considerate touches that made life during our stay easier. Plenty of towels, a luggage rack for each bedroom, full-length mirrors in each -- the owner has thought things through well. The decor is lovely, with interesting art and even good literature. The bed was comfortable and we appreciated the bottled water, coffee, olive oil, and other basic supplies. We look forward to staying here again.

Great Experience

The house was clean, fresh and airy. It was also well thought out with attention to detail and all of the necessities (cookware, towels, linens AND coffee) available. It is clear that the owner and prior guests have taken care with the home. An added touch is information about the area and history provided in the home. You won't be disappointed if you book this home. I definitely plan to return!

Junior Olympic Retreat

I arrived to the house late but noticed that the neighborhood was still quiet. Walking into the house I was amazed at how beautiful and pristine it was. I am very leery about rental homes and hotels so my anxiety was on high. However, I found this property to be one of the best I have ever stayed in. The water pressure in the master shower could have been better but the fact that I felt at home the entire time made up for that. I have the same house rules for shoes so I immediately felt comfortable. The house is well decorated and had plenty of space for me and my family. If I didn’t mention how clean it was let me say it again. I have a habit of sanitizing everything and cleaning whenever I get to a hotel or house, I did just that and found nothing. I have found more dirt at new hotels. Thanks again for allowing us to stay in your home. This stay made our trip so much better and stress free. Hope to rent from you again soon!

COOL PLACE!

VERY NICE…superbly decorated! Very clean! Great location. Would love to stay there again…. OR in the sister unit, Tina, next door! 😁 Curious about the decor there!😁 Had everything we could possibly need for a getaway trip. Love the history of the area! Thanks for offering such an awesome place!

The house was beautiful and had nearly everything we could need. The master bedroom is very nice with some nice amenities and the other two bedrooms are a decent size.

We loved our stay! No detail was neglected in designing and decorating this gorgeous house. The property was clean and comfortable, and included everything we needed for a wonderful weekend. I would definitely stay here again!

Lovely Sister Homes for A Linesister Reunion

We booked these sister properties back in the summer for Duke homecoming. We had no idea that our football team would actually be good! Lol... We had two houses for 8 women coming together for the 30th anniversary of our induction to our sorority. The homes - Modernist 5 and Modernist 6 - were new construction in a transitioning neighborhood. The houses are beautifully decorated with a modern design flair. The neighborhood was quiet. We didn't see many folks outside or walking around, though we were gone quite a bit during our two day stay. We used the bigger unit - Modernist 6 - as our fellowship and dining space. It was easy to walk between the two properties. The location was perfect and about 10 minutes from Duke. Shopping was also nearby, as well as downtown Durham. The neighborhood is in transition, with another new house under construction across the street and 3-4 newer homes on the block. However, there is a pretty shabby house across the street and next door to Modernist 6. No scary. Just very shabby. We never felt unsafe. And, again, both houses were beautiful, new, and shiny... Check-in was easy, the host was even able to accommodate an early check-in for one of the houses. They did so without hesitation and with no extra charge. I highly recommend both Modernist 5 and Modernist 6!
