About this property
Private Peaceful Country Getaway - Family Friendly - Illinois
This large timberframe home is an ideal country getaway in a private peaceful location (surrounded by 120 acres of woods, valley, grass, and farm ground). Enjoy beautiful views from the spacious kitchen, large living areas, deck, or screened-in porch. Spend time outdoors with walking trails, large playground, basketball hoop, large grass areas for sports, and hills for sledding. Located: 20 minutes from Monmouth, IL; 25 minutes from Galesburg, IL; and 35 minutes from Macomb, IL.
You will have the entire house to yourself. This timberframe home is 4,500 sq ft and was built on the top of a hill overlooking a valley and woods. It was built with reclaimed barn beams from one of my great Grandpa's barns and insulated concrete walls surrounding most of the house.
The main level has 1800 sq ft of living space. The master bedroom is located on this level and has a king size bed, walk-in closet, and master bathroom with a shower and a whirlpool tub. There is also a small bedroom with 2 toddler beds and a large pack 'n play that can be used as a crib. Besides the bedrooms, there is also a large modern kitchen, mudroom, laundry room, 1/2 bathroom, and large living/dining area with wood burning fireplace and vaulted ceiling that is 30 ft to the peak of the roof. From the open living/dining area, you can walk out to a screened-in porch that overlooks the valley.
On the upper level, there is 900 sq ft of living space. There is a bathroom with a shower. Next to the bathroom are two different bedrooms. Both bedrooms are enclosed with a door and walls, but two of the walls do not go completely to the vaulted ceiling. Please see pictures. One bedroom has a queen size bed, desk and dresser. The other bedroom has a queen size bed, chair, and dresser. There is also a loft reading area with a large selection of books and another open room on the east side of the house.
The lower level is a partially finished 1800 sq ft walk-out basement with a large bedroom with 4 twin beds, walk-in closet, bathroom with tub/shower, large play room with toys and mini basketball hoops, and large room with couches, TV, music keyboard, and games/puzzles. The storage room is locked and not available for use. From the walk-out basement, you can access a concrete patio which is underneath the screened-in porch. There is an outdoor fire pit near the patio.
Our property has a variety of things to do outside: deck with Traeger wood pellet grill, screened-in porch, outdoor fire pit, trails through the woods, large playground equipment, large grass areas to play soccer/kickball/football/baseball, large concrete area with basketball hoop, and hills for sledding.
Various wildlife, such as deer and turkey, have been seen while on the property. The house and property are very peaceful and quiet due to its remote location. It is between 15 - 30 miles to Monmouth, Galesburg, or Macomb. Please note that the property is located on a county maintained gravel road. We also have an outdoor security camera to monitor the front door area.

The property is very nice. Quiet location. Jen communicates very well. The kitchen is very well stocked and the house had everything we needed. I would highly recommend this property. We will be staying again.
We traveled to the area for a family get together and memorial service. The home was spacious, comfortable, well-stocked, and had everything we needed for a group aged 2-59. The location is rural and stunning.
This was the perfect retreat for our family of eight looking for a break from the city. The home is comfortable and beautiful and the landscape was exactly what we needed. A wonderful stay!
We've stayed at this property several times, which has always been enjoyable. It is very peaceful and serene. The property is well cared for, clean, and accommodating. It is a wonderful place for the family to gather.
Hands down one of the best! large group, family fun and atmosphere, if seclusion is what you want this is it. The host are great! 2nd stay definitely be back.
This is a very nice home with all the amenities one could want. Peaceful country, living with a very spacious setting plenty of room for our party of eight.
Beautiful family home located out in the country. House was fully loaded with kitchen items. Plenty of towels. Beds were very comfortable and the view was awesome. This is a family house with toys and beds for children of all ages plus a huge swing set. Thank you for letting us stay, we will be back.
This was our 4th time staying here, and it never disappoints. It is always very clean, and there were several great updates. The house is perfect for families. There is plenty to do both in and outside the house. Highly recommend!
This house has everything you could possibly need (but didn’t realize you needed) especially for families with kids from pack and play and tons of toys to best stocked kitchen we’ve ever stayed at.
We are so thankful to have been able to stay in this beautiful home. Everything was very clean, up-to-date and well stocked. The children enjoyed lots of toys and books and playing with cousins in the playroom. Everyone enjoyed gathering around the cozy fireplace and the lovely country view. Jen was so responsive to every question and request, she is a terrific host.
Was a neat house with lots of reading nooks and places to hang out. We especially enjoyed the screened porch at night and in the morning (we saw deer in the distance). Many acres to run around in, and a thick forest between us and the (hardly traversed) dirt/gravel roads. Ex as curly as advertised!
Overall, a nice property. It provided the soace we needed to celebrate Christmas with our family.
The large kitchen and great room were a huge plus. The downside was that sound travels VERY easily through out the home.
We had three families stay at the property and the rest of the family came on Christmas Day. The house is very nice and it worked for us. Nice kitchen and big open great room. The kids loved the basement area to play. The room upstairs was also very good for the kids to play games. The property is beautiful, very quiet private setting. We would definitely , rent this property again. Communication with Jen was good, she responded quickly.
This was a perfect place for us to get together to travel to Galesburg to settle our father's estate. Everything was wonderful plus watching the deer and beautiful countryside in the morning provided a sense of calm for us. We are all over 60 and the beds were very comfortable. The only reccomendation we would suggest is handrails going upstairs to the 2 bedrooms. We wished we had more time to spend in the library and the game room.
Even though we all live very close near each other, (flat land and hot) we still wanted to vacation as a family, as we were going to visit family. We could’ve stayed at a hotel but decided against it and I’m sure glad we did. We were together yet we all had our own space. This place was perfect quiet, peaceful, relaxing, the breeze on the deck, the view of deers, birds, rabbits and yes the rolling fields. This place is amazing. Definitely would stay again.

This house is WAY out in the country on a gravel road. We missed the driveway the 1st time. The closest gas station/store is in Abington which is 20 minutes away. The setting is beautiful, the house is big, the kitchen is phenomenal stocked very well! It is not handicap accessible. The master bed was very comfortable, 2 bedrooms upstairs are nice, the basement is really just for kids. Unfinished and only twin beds. A few spider webs and a fly infestation could easily be fixed. No doors on 2 of the bathrooms. Huge yard and playground for the kids. Very secluded!
We loved staying at this house! Our whole family along with married siblings and children stayed for a couple nights!
The house has a cozy feel that makes you feel right at home. The kitchen is large and well stocked.
Neat interior with the vaulted barn style beams and ceiling. The upstairs bedrooms don’t have a ceiling so you can see the peaked roof which is neat but it’s also harder to lay down the young children at night if people are still talking on the main floor as the sound carries right up to the bedrooms. We used a sound machine that helped a lot!
Jen was did a super job accommodating our large family!
We’d love to stay here again some time!
If you like quiet, peaceful and comfortable, you will like your stay. Great place for conversation, reflection, and sharing stories. The home is remote but, our GPS took us right to it, and that remoteness is part of the charm and beauty of the experience. We are golfers so finding two very nice AFFORDABLE courses nearby, one in Monmouth and one in Galesburg, was a bonus. The home is so well designed and beautiful. I am a home designer and construction mgr by trade and was impressed. I could go on and on about the unique and energy efficient construction, but not now. God willing, we all want to try and get together there again.
Big Thank You to Jen and Jeff for being so accommodating.
